It is a wonder to see that this Mission is so well preserved given its history. Anyone who is interested in the California Missions will want to visit this one since it is here that the founder of the Missions, Blessed Junipero Serra is burried.

Have been to Carmel several times, but never visited the Mission. We walked from downtown which is about a 20 minutes walk. The road has no sidewalks, but we enjoyed looking at the houses and gardens. The Mission itself is very interesting, and took us about an hour to see it all.

We attended the 5:30 Mass on a Saturday evening which was a very pleasant experience. The Mass finisshed in plenty of time to enjoy a walk and dinner in Carmel-By-the-sea.

Beautiful place filled with history. Easy access and well preserved. It is worth the stop and it was money well spent.

I try to visit the Mission on each trip to Carmel. I couldn't figure out why the place looked so buffed this time, and then I read that they had just spent $6M on a remodel. It is really beautiful (not that it wasn't before) and well worth visiting again if you haven't been there in awhile. Several museums tucked into various corners will add to your understanding of the history of the Mission as well as the Monterey Peninsula.
