“Best Legoland hotel if you have kids!”
Reviewed June 14, 2013

We rented a 2 bedroom villa and could not be happier. The villas are spacious, so clean and the kitchen is so clean and well-equipped. The family pool and splash area is so fun for the kids and there are daily activities like s'mores, outdoor movies, ice cream sundaes etc. Great game room and fitness center and room service from Karl Strauss very good. Above all the staff are ABOVE AND BEYOND friendly and helpful. Great free shuttle to anf from Legoland. My kids loved the large families of bunny rabbits that you see on the hotel lawns. Highly recommended.

My family of four (2 boys, ages 11 & 5) stayed here from 6/4-6/6 in the hotel section.
Pros:
- Great location - near Legoland, Flower Fields, outlet mall and tons of restaurants. Amazing views of the ocean.
- This facility offers various scheduled activities for everyone throughout each day. Outdoor movies, rootbeer floats, lawn games, xbox bowling, etc.
- There are tons of paths and walkways to just walk and enjoy the weather and gorgeous landscape of this facility. The jasmine was in full bloom all over the facility and smelled incredible! There is a really cool firepit area that has a great view too - very cool!
- It has a fantastic family pool area, with a water park playground, the pool, and even a "warm" tub. The pool area has ample umbrellas, and lounge chairs to relax in while watching your kids play.
- Game rooms for kids.
- There is underground parking, which I think is fantastic for security reasons.
- This facility is literally across the street from Legoland. We walked out of the front door of the hotel and a little walk right to an opening in the fence to the west side of the parking lot of the park, and then right to the gates of the park. Saved money on parking!
- The room itself was clean. Nothing gross or dirty caught my eye.
- The room came with Bath & Body hygiene products, which smelled ok. My son used them and thought they smelled like leaves and grass. Ha!
- Little patio with table and chairs outside the sliding door in the room.
- Comfy bed and pillows.
- Little fridge in room.
- Kuerig coffee pot and coffee - nice touch.
- Enough towels for 4 people.
- Strong water pressure and ample hot water in shower/tub.
- Free Wifi with great connection in our room - second floor.
- Pretty great gym with free weights and quite a large selection of equipment.
- All the staff was very friendly, accommodating and helpful.

Cons: These are few and not deal-breakers in my opinion.
- Hidden "hold" charge upon check in for "incidentals". This is not the resort usage fee that is also charged, this is an additional fee that is returned after your check out if "everything is fine upon check-out". Ours was $100 dollars, which was all returned upon check out, but I'm still not quite sure what this was even for, as they already have your credit card number and if there were damage they could just charge you later. This could put a damper in people's travel plans, as some people are on budgets, so I want to put that info out there.
- No bottled water provided in room for coffee or drinking - The Fuji water they have sitting on the desk is labeled as $4.50/bottle. They do however, have cold bottled water and other items in the lobby store for a regular price. Water was $1.25/bottle. We recently stayed at an amazing hotel in AZ and were impressed that they provided free bottled water in the room. It was a nice touch.
- No safe in the room. Where do you store your belongings with peace of mind while you're away and your room is being cleaned? We ended up actually having to take ours down to our vehicle to store because we felt it would be safer.
- No luggage racks to sit your bags on. We had to put them on the chairs and floor.
- The air-conditioner was a bit loud when it kicked on, but it worked very well. The white-noise may actually be enjoyed by some people.

Overall, this is an incredibly nice resort. There are plenty of things to do in the facility and nearby. The facility is well maintained, the staff friendly and the location awesome. We will stay here again.

My family and I traveled to Carlsbad at the end of March 2013 to celebrate our son's birthday at Legoland. The Legoland hotel just barely opened so all of its hotel rooms were already booked. This hotel was the next best choice as it was right next to Legoland.

Notes about the hotel and area:

1. The lobby has a nice water cooler with fresh fruit inside and a few Lego like objects for children to climb on.

2. We had to pay a daily $16.00 plus tax for the resort fee which included parking. This surprised us as this didn't seem like a resort and felt it wasn't worth it.

3. The room was large and clean.

4. The hotel had kindly setup several rolled-up towels in the shape of a large 2 foot cake with many colorful stick-ons saying "Happy Birthday" and there were a few animal shaped balloons next to it. Huge kudos to the service department !

5. The bathroom was just ok.

6. The bed was very comfortable.

7. The room door seems paper thin as you can hear any noise in the hallway.

8. It's cheaper to get Legoland tickets at Legoland than from the hotel concierge if you have AAA card or some other discount.

9. Legoland is only about a 15 minute walk (door to door) from this hotel.

10. The Karl Strauss Brewery & Restaurant (http://www.karlstrauss.com/PAGES/Eats/Carlsbad.html) on the property is good for breakfast and dinner. It is a very short walk from the lobby.

11. The nearby (~5 minute drive) German deli, Tip Top Meats, (http://www.tiptopmeats.com/menu.aspx?mt=1) is also a good choice for breakfast.

Overall, I felt this hotel had great customer service and was very convenient for going to Legoland but didn't see it as a resort.

My recent stay here was just wonderful. I had a room with an ocean view, overlooking the flower fields. It was so relaxing and enjoyable. This place has amazing accomodations too: pool, jacuzzi, workout room, spa, room service, and incredibly friendly and helpful staff. The room I stayed in had a seperate bedroom, living room, full kitchen with stove, microwave, dishwasher, dishes, a shower and a bathtub, fireplace, ceiling fans, king sized bed and all it was clean and nicely decorated. It was a real treat to stay here and relax. I couldn't have been more pleased!

This resort hotel had all the amenities of a resort and the comfort and warmth of a country lodge. We stayed for a week, the second week in December and, though the weather was nippy, the hotel was warm and cheery with fires in the fireplaces. Situated in the center of town, and across from the beach, everything was close by, even the train station for a day trip to San Diego There were plenty of activities as well as happy hour and entertainment. The staff was incredible. When I wanted a cookie sheet it appeared within 15 minutes, and a light bulb needing replacement was changed almost immediately. The little thoughtful things made us feel at home. There was hot chocolate packets and microwave popcorn in our apartment and beach chairs were also stashed in the closets for our personal use on the short walk to the beach. The only downside was there is really no ocean view, except for a few, premium apartments. But all in all it was wonderful experience and we plan to return.

Room Tip: Most rooms face into the center, facing opposite apartments, so if you want a view you will probably...

We recently stayed at this resort on our initial visit to Southern California. I hope all Gold Crown resorts are as acomodating as GPR. I cannot say enough good things about the entire staff. They provided us with everything we asked for, even switching our room upon check in for one with a better view. Any questions I had about any item from directions to dinning were cheerfully answered.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom unit and it was extremely well kept. The furnishings were up to date, and in very good condition. The beds were very comfortable and the living space generous. The kitchen supplies were modern and in excellent condition.

The grounds were landscaped beautifully, and the workers were always busy keeping the resort looking terrific. There were two pools; one for children/families, and another for adult lap swimming and use. Both were heated and very clean. There was also a hot tub which I used at the adult pool. Quite relaxing! For the amount of foot traffic these areas received, I was amazed at how clean they were throughout the day.

There is an exercise facility which was also in great shape with a good amount of different machines. A Sauna and massage center were also available. The massage was an extra cost, but worth it. We also used the shuffle-board court, basketball court, and activity center. All were again in decent shape, although the basketball backboard was cracked. Minor inconvenience.

There are also numerous barbeque grills available throughout the resort. The again were in great shape. The maintenance staff keeps them very clean.

Housekeeping provided us with clean towels twice during our weeklong stay, and readily answered our requests for addional items.

There were numerous activities organized by the resort staff. We only participated in a few, as we had an aggressive list of things we wanted to do. We were not disapointed in these activities either. Activites near by that we did were Legoland, K1-electric go-car racing (a lot of fast fun!), Outlet mall shopping (within walking distance!), and beaches (about 2 miles away). There are also many other activites too numerous to mention that we never got to do.

Additionally, the resort sits on a hill over-looking flower fields. Our timing was a bit off and we didn't catch them as they were were all in bloom, but of what was left was impressive. There is a restaurant on site, but our schedule never got us there. I did hear it was good.

Overall, we were absoulutely thrilled with this resort. Not sure if this is what you expect from a gold crown resort, but they have set the bar very high.

Room Tip: We liked the rooms on the higher levels that had an overview of the ocean, even though the ocean was...

If you've got kids and want to go to LEGOLAND, this is a great choice. There is a big pool, activities room, and barbecues that you can use to grill food. The suite was a good size at a nice price, with a very large bathroom. The sofa pulls out into a bed, and the rollaway beds they can bring are surprisingly comfortable. There's a little noise from people walking past your room, but you can choose one on the end so there's less chance of that.

There's only one restaurant on the property and I didn't like the breakfast there, but that's about my only complaint. This is NOT a business hotel, but it would be great for a family.

Also, there's a shuttle that goes to LEGOLAND, or you can walk back if you're feeling up to it (after a long day of walking through the park, your legs might really appreciate a shuttle). The shuttle is a great way to skip the parking lot price if you don't get the annual pass.

Room Tip: The ones on the end are a long walk from the lobby, but you get less noise from people walking past...
