“Great Location, Great Value, But........”
Reviewed August 17, 2012

This hotel was in a beautiful location in Carlsbad and we got it for a fair price per night. However, the rooms were a little on the old and rundown side. We had the queen bed and pullout sofa room. The sofa bed was rickety and broken and the tissue paper insert fell apart when my son tried to get tissue out of the dispenser. There was a little kitchen as well. The refrigerator looked fairly new but the stove looked like it was from the 70's. Otherwise, the room was big and the queen bed had its own room which gave us some privacy when our kids wanted to watch TV late on the sofa sleeper. The staff was very nice and helpful. Just a tip, you should probably have two helpers in the breakfast room during the free continental breakfast rush rather than one. That poor woman that worked in there was run ragged and she was working really hard. She just couln't replace things that were running out fast enough.

I appreciate your review. And we take your concerns seriously, We have made several upgrades over the past year including new TVs and new carpeting throughout the hotel. YOU WILL ME HAPPY TO KNOW WE JUST PLACED AN ORDER TO REPLACE ALL SOFA BEDS IN THE HOTEL. WE ARE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THE LATEST ADDITION. Thank you again for your review.

Thank you for your business. Actually the carpets are brand new and still smell new. However, the sofa beds are old and will be replaced within the next 30 days. Thank you again. Cris Vasquez

The room was what I expected more or less. The furnishing are a little run down looking, but overall it did not distract from our enjoyment of the trip. We stayed at the Ramada for 5 nights and I have no complaints. Breakfast was ok, the food selection was sparse, but adequate for being FREE! The internet was also free which is a bonus. We had a two-bedroom suite which had a TV in the "living room" and one other room. Would have been nice to have a TV in both rooms, but seeing as they were newer flat screen TVs, it is understandable why they did not. The kids enjoyed the pool area. There is a bit of road noise and every morning you could hear the dump truck taking the trash, but as we are heavy sleepers it was not a deal breaker for our family. Quick drive to Legoland, took us about 8-10 min by city streets to get there. Very close to many restaurants to fit any budget, and there is a major grocery store and drug store chain just a couple blocks south.

Great place to stay with the family. Room enough for 5. We like that there's a bedroom and some space. Fridge and microwave are a must for families with young children and teens. 5 min car drive to Legoland and Carlsbad Village. An excellent value!

For amount of money this room was, this room was not what it should have been. The kitchen was out of date and was afraid to use it due to some of the stove pieces looking as if they weren't installed properly. The sofa bed mattress was old and lumpy. So thin that if more weight was on it, it could have went through the sofa bed part. The main bed was lumpy, old, hard, and very uncorfortable.

The beds were comfortable, the shower/bath was new. Pool area was well kept. In the room the kitchenette and bathroom counters were old and crusty. Sofa was light colored and thus dirty/worn looking. AC in bedroom was a portable unit that didn't really cool the room. Doors that open on to the back of the parking lots felt a little skeevy and unsafe. Our room have two double beds and a sofa bed in the living space, so a lot of room for the $. Was totally fine for one night sandwiched between two days at Legoland but I would pay more to stay somewhere nicer next time.

For the record, I have been a long time customer of Ramada Hotel in Santa Barbara and I have stayed there at least once a year and sometimes twice. The rooms are clean and well kept and they have a beautiful laggon surronded by Paml trees. So based on my past experience with Ramada of Santa Barbara I made my reservation @ Ramada in Carlsbad
Ca.

First and foremost my rating for this hotel from the scale of 1 to 10 is a big minus ZERO.
I will never ever book another hotel reservation thru HotelPlusPortal.com and I will make sure to let all my friends and family know how this hotel was misrepresented.
The hotel was unkept and very old and when you walked into the lobby to check-in there was an unpleasant odor and the same maloder in the elevator it stunk really bad and was filthy.

The email confirmation from Hotel Plus portal stated the following (1 bedroom suite that has a Queen size bed in the bedroom and a separate living room with sofa sleeper. The suite has a full kitchen equipped with a FULL SIZED REFRIGERATOR and OVEN) what a joke!

They had us check in into a very small room #321 un on the 3rd floor where two people could hardly move around and there was NO full kitchen, NO separate living room and NO sofa bed as confirmed by Hotel Plus reservations.
In one corner of the room there was a small microwave and a small refrigerator. I think this unit was no bigger than 225 square feet and there was an unpleasant odor to top it all. It was clear to us that we could not stay there let alone spend the night.
I called the front desk and spoke with Leticia and informed her that we were unhappy with the condition of the room and we wanted to check out. She said she would look
into it and will call back to me but she never did. I waited for quite a while for her to call us back and of course they never did so we decided to check out and returned home to Los Angeles the same day.
On Friday morning August 10th I called The Ramada hotel directly from Los Angeles and spoke with Rose about our bad experience regarding the condition of the room, she apologized and said that I should be refunded since we did not use the facility.
I think Ramada Hotel should have the courtesy and refund me $326.61 dollars for my unplaisant experience at the Ramada Hotel Carlsbad by the sea in Carlsbad California.
