“It was......ok.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2013

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights for an extended family vacation. Our whole group had 3 different rooms in various locations on the 2nd floor.

The hotel itself is very impressive. Clean, well appointed, nicely kept, looks as if it was built yesterday. The rooms are also well appointed with king size beds, and my wife raved about the sheets. Even on days we requested no service, they left a basket of fresh towels, etc., outside the door. Nice touch.

The breakfast and evening cookies/milk were also well done. The only pointer would be to mix it up a bit. It was the same every day. Same yogurt flavors, same sausages, same eggs, a little variety would have been nice.

The pool was A+. They had an array of pool toys, beach balls, etc., for the kids to play with in the pool. A hot tub, and a little waterfall to add to the ambiance.

As nice as this place is, it has its downfalls. The WiFi......terrible. For all three of our rooms in various locations on the 2nd floor, you had to walk to your door to be able to pick up the network, and once you got connected, you got one "bar". You could walk across your room to the window, surf the web (slowly), and then your connection would drop. They need more access points.

As nice as the buildings are, the location is not as nice. It is situated between I-5 and the Amtrak/commuter train tracks. If you don't hear the traffic, you hear the Amtrak/commuter train whistle, which seemed to go by quite often.

There was a DVD player in our room, and as we were checking out, someone was returning a DVD. They apparently have a library and loan out DVD's from the front desk. That would have been nice to know when we checked in.

Lastly, the beach. While they don't advertise that they are on the beach (but near to it if I recall), you actually have to drive there. It's several blocks, and parking is difficult to find. If the beach is your primary destination, it will be a challenge to go to and fro each day.

Bottom line, would we stay here again, maybe.

A very tough review to write. This hotel was like meeting the man of my dreams and going on a bad date with him....

We are a family with an 11 year old who travel allot in the US from Canada. We enjoy great hotels and booked this based on reviews from TA and friends. The hotel amenities are amazing. The rooms are lovely with turn down service. We had a suite. Small but well appointed. The pool is small but never too packed. The owners have thought of everything! Amazing breakfast buffet using local ingredients, homemade cookies in the evening, a pet check in desk, pool diapers and toys, a room filled with hundreds of beach toys and boogie boards to borrow, luxurious Nissan SUV shuttle to drive guests anywhere at anytime free of charge, .etc.
Now here is why we checked out early:
This jewel of a hotel is in the middle if nowhere.
You can watch the cars whiz by on the I5 from the pool ( although they have a waterfall and lovely landscaping to try and hide it); the hotel is located between a massive water filtration plant and a freeway. You can't just walk across the street to a boardwalk or a beach. In fact it's a chain link fence...
Because of its quaintness ( not a concrete block) ... we could also hear every movement of the kids running in the room above us.
We felt that same isolation you get at a gated all-inclusive.

If they could just pick this hotel up and move it ..... Now that would be perfection.

We had another small snag which I am going to write-off as a fluke.
After reading the reviews - I booked directly with hotel with advance notice and requested a room overlooking to pool (and freeway). We had a courtesy call the day before arrival and I was told ' that room is waiting for you' . We arrived to the handicap accessible suite on the first floor looking at the parking lot. Felt like a bad motel view. We were offered another room for the second night but who wants to move all their belongings?( in fairness ,the hotel did offer to do that for us)

In the end we left this jewel half way through the booking and headed back to a familiar 4 star in the OC.

Room Tip: ask for a room on top floor without a view of the plant or the freeway

This hotel was amazing!! We spent 6 nights at this hotel last week and it was an unforgettable experience! Where do I begin?! Awesome things: cookies and milk in the evenings, my boys loved getting a movie each night from the front desk, they provide you with any beach stuff you might need (towels, sand toys, boogie boards, beach chairs), clean rooms, great customer service, shuttle service to local places, great location to call "home" while visiting San Diego area attractions. Highly recommend this hotel!!!!

We spent 2 nights here for our anniversary, July 5th to July 7th. It was perfect! We had a king suite, and it was very roomy and comfortable. Even though it was the July 4th holiday, it never seemed crowded or noisy. When we arrived at our room, we were surprised to see balloons, a bottle of wine, and a Ghiradelli chocolate bar! At check-in, both Corey and Stephanie were very friendly and professional. Everyone on staff repeatedly told us to let them know if we needed anything. One night we borrowed a DVD (no charge!) to play in our room. The room had a fridge and microwave, and two free bottled waters. They even provided a roll of paper towels! It was such a comfortable, pleasant environment, and perfect for a romantic get-away! We will definitely be back!

We only stayed for two nights and didn't use the pool or anything, but it was great. The bed was so comfortable and the room was clean. We were close to the parking lot but not enough to smell the fumes. It was also very quiet. The staff was nice. Checking in and out was easy and quick. Great location to where we had to be, as well as some eateries and the beach.

We stayed at this hotel for a recent visit to Legoland to celebrate my son's 10th birthday. We chose the hotel based on the many positive reviews we had read. It was a great choice! We stayed in a double king suite and the room was huge! The hotel is really nice and the staff were very helpful and professional. The shuttle was very convenient for Legoland and saved us paying for parking. When we returned from Legoland, there was a birthday balloon bouquet for my son in the room. What a nice personal touch! The cookies and milk at night were a fun treat. We will definitely stay here again for another trip to Carlsbad. Here's a tip for parents: the lighted makeup mirror in the bathroom worked great as a nightlight!

What a great surprise to end up with what was promised. Called
the Chamber of commerce, and they recommended this hotel as one of the best in the area. From the time you walk through
The lobby's front doors, you are
Greeted by the front desk associate. Then you notice hard wood floors as far as you can see. After an easy check in, then a short walk to your room, you enter your room and say wow!! Great beds and a shower
Some of us wish we had at home. No stepping over the bath tub here, all rock and stone
Flooring in this room. A must do
When in Carlsbad, or Oceanside just a few minutes up the road. Two restaurants on the same property a must do.
Highly recommend this hotel.
