I wasn't expecting much of a lunch when my husband said we were going to a meat market that had sandwiches. It was a wonderful place and very hard to decide what to choose to eat. If I lived in Carlsbad I would definitely be a frequent visitor to the fresh meat counter. It was fun to look through the European market part of the store. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. The roast beef sandwich I had was delicious. Next time I am going for dinner and trying the prime rib dinner. I was pleasantly surprised to find a large eating area that was very attractive and homey feeling. You order and pay at the counter and the food is brought to you.

Sometimes when you go off the beaten path, you find a gem like Tip Top meats. This is not just a restaurant, it's a full on deli, butcher shop and European grocery store. You are likely to find things here that you will not find anywhere else locally. The restaurant is not fancy. It's deli style. You order your food at the counter and they will bring it to your table. The quality of the food is as the name says, 'Tip Top'. The sausage is fresh made at their butcher shop. I've eaten breakfast and lunch here and have not been disappointed. Sometimes the line is a little long, but it's worth the wait. Going for lunch? Try the chicken cordon bleu. It's amazing!

This is a German butcher shop with imported German food products and the restaurant on the side. Extensive menu with reasonable prices and large portions. The prime rib with red cabbage and mush potatoes is my favorite. Also roulade with German beer, just great. The weekends can be quite busy so the best time is during the week. Plenty of parking on site.

Want a fine German ethnic meal for a reasonable price? Stop in at the restaurant in Carlsbad known as Tip Top Meats. You cannot go wrong with the choices on offer. This is as close as one will come to finding a German pub-type restaurant on this side of the Atlantic. It emphasizes many of the German favorites such as rouladen, sauerbraten, knackwurst, bratwurst, potatoes flavored with pork trimmings, red cabbage, etc. as well as many American specialties.

Furthermore, they have the best quality meat in the area. If you love German food and beer, you’ll find it at Tip Top Meats. The Big John breakfast is so popular that folks drop in from miles around to tie in to that extravaganza. The portions are always generous. It is rare to see a hungry patron leaving the place without a take-out box saving some of the goodies for later.

This is a very popular restaurant and a taste of the well prepared food will quickly explain it all. The restaurant is at the rear of a large supermarket catering to German specialty foods and meats. It is an excellent place to acquire German / Polish specialty foods, especially holiday treats.

Meticulous care is taken in food preparation and cleanliness. Butchers are friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Their filet mignon, various steaks and prime rib are all first rate. A meal consisting of a fine steak, baked potato and vegetable will run around fifteen dollars.

We dine there frequently and recommend it highly.
