“Amazing Experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 10, 2012

I had an amazing time with friends for my trip here, but I'll be back with my wife in the future. Everything at the resort was outstanding from the greeting to the departure. I would recommend this resort to anyone visiting Southern California!

Room Tip: See if you can get a room with a view of the pool and Pacific Ocean.

The lounge, the bar, the restaurant, the service, the rooms, the outside area...

It was all absolutely remarkable. I really enjoyed my stay there!

Perfect location as well to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but close enough that you can enjoy all San Diego has to offer.

Dear Bradymw23,

Thank you for the great review! You are right; with our location in South Carlsbad, we are close to all the action and attractions that San Diego has to offer, but still in a quiet area to take in the ocean views and relax. We hope to see you again soon.

This new resort is among the absolute best places to stay in San Diego county. My small business group planned an evening of drinks and dinner at Chandlers, the restaurant on the property. The ambience and the service were exemplary and the food was amazing.

This was the 2nd time I've stayed here and I can't say enough nice things about the staff treats its guests. Thank you to everyone who works there for being so accommodating.

Very comfortable hotel right on the fantastic Carlsbad beach. Main lobby has a relaxed feel to it and a design similar to a modern store on Rodeo Drive. Rooms are very comfortable and well equipped and the beds are ultra comfortable. Great restaurant, Chandlers that offers a fabulous buffet homemade breakfast Internet and Parking are free!! Great shopping and dinning minutes away

My partner and I were at a wedding in Carlsbad and decided to encamp at this Hilton because it was a new Hilton property and we wanted to try it out. Being new, the hotel is actually pretty fresh, with all new furniture and a trendy vibe. When we checked in, they were very accommodating to giving us an upgrade considering that we were Diamond on Hilton. We ended up with a pool-facing room on the third floor. We originally had a room on the first floor, but it was a good idea to switch while at the front desk, because on the first floor, people at the pool can kind of see inside your room since they're at eye-level. The room itself was an adequate size, nothing special relative to any other Hilton that we say that.

However, I will say that the breakfast situation was absolutely horrible. The lack of management in that situation is one of the reasons I am rating this hotel like I am, because it speaks to the larger point of not being able to handle a full hotel so soon after opening. Both mornings we were there, the extremely paltry breakfasthad a waiting line of over 30 minutes, one of the few places I've ever been to have this problem so consistently. And they told us to wait even though half the restaurant was clearly empty with the tables not having anyone. And then, when we finally got a table the first day, the food kept running out but there wasn't much else to eat besides that and a few muffins. The second day, we literally ate an entire meal without EVER being served or approached by a server. We just helped ourselves in clear view of servers passing up. Ridiculous. A great view from the breakfast room, but a total mess management wise.

Also, I have somewhat of a problem with the actual location of the resort. I understand that the main says "oceanfront," but the ocean is across the street, through a camping area, and then down a whole bunch of steps. And then, there is not much sand to actually sit or lay on, and you have to be on rocks. I've enclosed pictures of what it looks like, and it's not the most family-friendly beach resort you may picture. Also, our rate got came with an putative "ocean package" that included chairs and umbrellas for use at the beach, but it basically was a torn umbrella with some old chairs that we had to set up ourselves. It wasn't really anything special or memorable.

The pool itself is nice and there was adequate chairs for people who want to lay down or sit in the sun. We stayed at the pool more than venture to the cold ocean.

Overall, if you're in the area and need a place to stay, then this is an OK hotel. But as something of a vacation destination, I wouldn't really recommend this hotel because it doesn't really offer anything that hotels in San Diego or elsewhere don't.

We stayed here with our two kids age 6 and 9 at the end of October. We received an e-mail from the concierage several days before arrival asking if we needed anything. She was great with getting us an umbrella and boogie boards for the beach. The layout is a U-shape so we ended up cutting through the pool to get to the restaurant. The food at the restaurant is very good. We enjoyed the Sunday morning brunch. We had a first level ocean view room. It was nice and clean but was directly on Carlsbad Blvd. The traffic noise was minimal but during the busy season it could be a problem. Next time we would choose a balcony level room. The hotel charged us for valet parking when we self parked but it quickly corrected once I called and notified the front desk. My kids loved the pool and fire pit. The finishes at the hotel are quite nice. Hope they hold up over time. Two things that I found annoying but not a huge deal 1) No crayons for kids at the restaurant 2) No recycling for newspapers and water bottles. Overall a nice, clean, efficient hotel. We love Carlsbad and would definitely stay again.

This resort definitely exceeded my expectations!

Everything from the shrimp tacos, delightful staff, modern amenities, and breathtaking views – This Resort is a 10 out of 10!

I would highly recommend this resort for both business and leisure travel – It truly has it all including the most stunning sunset that can be enjoyed from the oceanfront pool, Chandler’s Restaurant and Lounge, or in the privacy of your room's own secluded balcony. Simply Amazing!

Room Tip: I highly recommend a oceanside room!
