This is my 2nd time ever in Carlsbad and my family was meeting other family members at the Carlsbad Inn Resort for a reunion type of thing. So 3 of us walked over to Knockout Burgers to take back food to the pool at the resort.

We decided on Knockout Burgers. So we walk in and order a $75 (approx.) order for 8 people. The menu is pretty damn small and the prices are so-so. We chit chatted with the guy & girl behind the counter while they cooked our food and apparently they are married and the girls brother owns the place. They were pretty cool.

We get back and find out they forgot a burger, i guess they should have double checked better. Oh yeah...they also messed up 2 other burgers by not putting lettuce on one and cheese on the other. We didnt wanna walk all the way back to complain.

I got the heavyweight (double cheeseburger) combo and it was decent, nothing too memorable. They made it sound like its gonna be HUGE but it was pretty basic and small. It says K.O. sauce comes on it but i never tasted any kind of sauce. I will say the fries were really good....nice and crispy.

So the food was decent but nothing memorable, the prices are so-so, it wasn't a big burger but the sister and brother-in-law who were there that day were nice.

Will i come back when we visit Carlsbad again? Honestly....probably not.

Thank Tleeg

On a recent trip to Carlsbad, CA, I was craving a really good cheeseburger, and a Google search kept bringing up this place, Knockout Burger. As it turned out, it was within walking distance of my hotel, so I thought I'd give it a try...

From the moment I walked into the place, I knew I had made a terrible mistake. First, there was no one in the restaurant (it was 1:30 in the afternoon), no one visible behind the counter, and then I was greeted by a little boy who was clearly bored to death, having been dragged there by a parent(?) and forced to hang out there while they worked.

A moment later, a tall man with a ballcap on sideways, baggy pants, chains, etc. comes out of no where up to the counter. I wasn't sure he really worked there, but then asked me what I'd like. My intuition kicked in to leave, but I was hungry and the place had good reviews, so I ordered just a small cheeseburger and a soda. As he was ringing up my order, all of a sudden a woman came out of no where! She seemed to know more about what was going on and started helping him with register and telling him how to collect the money. I decided she was the cook because she had grease stains all over her shirt, but then she disappeared and went to take care of the little boy.

The guy took my money, then took the order and money from another customer who came in right behind me. Then I see the man behind the counter go directly to prepare the food--without washing his hands!!!! First he put his hand into a large pickle jar and filled a smaller container, then I see him put the burgers on the grill--still no hand washing, just wiped his hands on his jeans.

Being brave, and I was very hungry, when the food came I took a bite of the burger, and quietly went to the trash can and threw it away. I noticed the other customer did the exact same thing. The bun was dry, the meat did not taste good, and I admit, I probably just couldn't get past the lack of cleanliness.

There are lots of good reviews on this establishment, but I find it hard to believe I caught them on a "bad" day. I think that there just isn't a great hamburger joint in Carlsbad, CA, and this is the "best" of what is in town. As evidence, when you Google "best burger in Carlsbad, CA" the first burger joint that comes up is "In-N-Out Burger". I am one of the few who does not like In-N-Out burgers, but I would eat there before ever eating at Knockout Burger again.

The one positive I can give this place is that the people--when they appeared--were very nice and suggested other menu items to go along with my meal.
