“Fit the bill!”
Reviewed April 5, 2011

Based on TripAdvisor reviews, we selected this property for a 4 night stay and were pleased. First impression entry wasn't great (could use new Hilton rug and power wash the tiles), but the rest of property was nice. Was busy over weekend/spring break but didn't feel impacted either @ pool or elsewhere. Husband said max of 5 for exercise room felt cramped.
Loved wifi, beach cliffs where the pelicans fly past your face, the responsiveness of the staff (front desk greets runners with a towel & water!). The walk to Starbucks over the freeway was manageable in mornings. We didn't eat on site.
It is a standard Hilton Garden Inn layout but the location and amenities are better than other locations.

Room Tip: Ask for 3rd floor.

Stayed four days while attending conference at nearby Park Hyatt. I chose to stay here because the rates were more reasonable and property's location to ocean. The hotel has a great view. Many folks stop along the road, near hotel, to take in view and snap photos. It also seemed a popular spot for surfers. The hotel staff were excellent, especially the shuttle drivers, who took me to the outlet mall and to conference each morning. Unfortunately the weather was not as beautiful as it typically is in Southern California, rained and stormed two of the days.
One recommendation, for those flying in from San Diego is to use the airport shuttle, Cloud 9, excellent service, honest, dependable. $34 one way.
The pool was nice, not busy but weather was low 60's.
Tried the hotel restaurant, not impressed, $13 for turkey club and bowl of soup. I would not recommend ordering either of these items.
Highly recommend the outlet mall, excellent food choices, Starbucks, Godiva, Gap, and great little Mexican place with Salmon burrito. I loved the outdoor atmosphere with beautiful landscaping.

Have been to Carlsbad a few times, as my son is in Golf Academy of America just up the road. Very friendly staff, from the receptionists to the restaurant staff etc. Good to have free wi-fi and being able to print docs from your room or business centre is a major bonus, as I always work, even on holidays. Rooms are average, a little sparse and menu is restaurant is limited, but if you get the weather ( which one normally does), then breakfast and/or dinner outside on the patio area is excellent. Beach just across the road is great and gives you a great " feel good" attitude throughout the stay. Prices can get a little steep however, I paid about $150 a night for my stay recently.

My wife and I stayed in the Hilton Garden Inn Carlsbad for one night during the middle of the week in early February. The front desk staff was very friendly and took the time to welcome me back, even though it had been over 9 years since I had stayed here. The single king bed rooms are relatively small compared to many other hotels. Breakfast is not included with the room but available with some packages. Internet access is free, which is a plus. They have a small gym and possibly most important about this hotel, the beach is across the street and many people run along the bike path that parallels the beach. Some rooms may have a water view; however ours only had a partial view of the water and parking lot. Our room was quite for the most part, until around 8 am, when workers outside began to pound and work on a patio area. This was puzzling, since the hotel was only partially full and they chose to put us in a room directly above construction. The hotel is not near any restaurants within walking distance. There is a McDonalds a very short drive from the hotel as well as several other restaurants both local and chains. Downtown Carlsbad, which is very quant, is a short drive north. There are a few nice seafood restaurants in the downtown area and a few shops. If you are there at the right time or year, there is a large area that grows flowers about ½ miles from the hotel, directly behind the windmill you see from the highway. It is definitely worth a drive by. There is a TGI Fridays near the base of the windmill. All in all the Hilton Garden Inn Carlsbad is very nice and the location is hard to beat. Just be sure to ask if they are doing any construction if you plan to hang out in your room in the morning.

My husband and I recently decided to vacation in the San Diego area and picked this hotel and loved it. The view from our room was fantanstic and the big highway that some describe as a hard to cross five lane hightway was no problem at all with the stop lights right out front of the hotel. Sure there was no access to the beach right there due to natural terrain, but many accesses in many spots. Our walks that we took every morning to Carlsabad Village were fun and had many breath taking views. The staff couldn't be friendlier and the entire premise was always clean. Very good proximity to many destinations also. Folks need to remember this is a hotel....not a resort or theme park. We highly recommend!!

We've now stayed at this hotel four times as we've been in Carlsbad for the marathon or half marathon. The location is very nice, with beautiful beach and ocean views from many of the rooms. The beach is right across the street and is fairly easy to reach via one of the informal pathways down the cliff side. We book the full ocean view rooms and think the cost is worth it. The staff are very friendly and attentive, which is nice. Two complaints would be that unfortunately a road lies between the hotel and the beach. Obviously, there is no way to change that but it can occasionally be a bit noisy if you are in a room at the front of the hotel. We do find that overnight there is almost no traffic on the road, but if what you want is full tranquility with your ocean view then this is not the hotel for you. The other is that I found the new mattresses--some kind of firm-ness adjustment mattress--to be lumpy and uncomfortable. My wife had no such complaints, however, so that is really my personal complaint. Will we be back next year if we come back for the marathon? Yes! For us it is the place to stay in Carlsbad.

Our stay at this hotel was arranged through Wyndham Resorts in Oceanside so that we would attend a sales presentation. I love the location of this hotel. We walked across to the beach and watched the sun set from a bench. Our ocean view room was very clean, very spacious with top notch personal amenities/toiletries. If we had had to pay for the stay, though, I don't think the value is there as there is no continental breakfast or anything other than the room. I would recommend this place only if you can obtain a generous rate reduction.
