Carlsbad by the Sea Resort is so closed to freeways and oceans. We in our group had a great time. The place offers great family resort. Nice and clean swimming pool. Our grandkids had a marvelous time.

Room Tip: The rooms are very clean and provides privacy.

I found cockroaches in the room and they were crawling on me when i was in bed. It was horrible. When I went to the front desk they claimed never to have had this problem before. The staff basically said I was lying. But I took pictures of all the roaches I could kill. the others got away. This is a management issue, not a housekeeping problem. Housekeeping can only do so much against an infestation of cockroaches. This place should be tented and refurbished. Yes, it's not fancy, but no one should be subjected to sleeping with vermin at any price.

It can be a little misleading when you read about this hotel and think it's on the beach, and it's not. However it is still a nice property. It is clean and the furniture is updated as well as the bed linens and draperies. Since this property is not new it would serve them well to upgrade the tile and fixtures in the bathrooms since they are not upgraded like the rest of the room. When you see it from the outside it looks like it might not be that great but upon entering the room you see that the room is located away from the door and facing the beautiful garden area. The nice balcony has lawn chairs that welcome you to sit and relax after a long travel day. (I love when rooms have balconies because they open the room up so much and you don't feel so claustrophobic.) The staff is so nice and accommodating. The hotel clerk took the time to find out where we were from and where we were planning on going. She was genuinely friendly and it was not forced chit-chat. There is a great seafood restaurant next door and an outlet mall across the street. I can see how this property would be great for families because of the room.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room overlooking the garden area and not the pool area if you are looking for a little bit of quiet.

We had a nice stay at this hotel. The rooms were nice and clean. The pool was nice and big. The front desk was okay and gave us what we needed. The breakfast was ok. The grounds were pretty. I think their air conditioner needs to be serviced, was very noisy.

Room Tip: The air conditioner was NOISY and drawers were broke.
