“A little Italy in Capitoa”
Reviewed July 27, 2013

We dined here on a recommendation of a friend. The menu spanned many of my favorite Italian dishes so we had many to chose from. The wine list is small but unique. The waiter had memorized at least six special entrees that were not on the menu. I chose one and was not disappointed. The service was quite efficient and personal. The brushetta was great. The chef came out and greeted us. Nice touch. All in all a great romantic dining experience. We will be back.

“One of the better places to eat in Capitola”
Reviewed July 10, 2013

This is one of our regular restaurants in Capitola. They always have great specials and a menu with a lot of variety. On warm nights we like to sit outside and whether we are inside or outside, we always get great service. For a change o pace, we even like to sit at the small bar where we can see all the action in the kitchen. The owner is always around and it proud of the quality of food his kitchen turns out. In general, we like to take our time and never feel rushed. Can't comment on desserts, as we are always too full. Have a good wine list, considering the size of the restaurant. Don't be afraid to ask for what you want as they always seem able to accommodate special requests.

“Delicious dinner & great service!”
Reviewed July 2, 2013

We went with one other couple & we shared 2 delicious appetizers. I also ate the generously sized, perfect white bean soup. The lamb pasta and stuffed pork roll were creative and yummy. I can't say enough about the roasted garlic & olive oil mixture. It's like fine wine to me. We finished off our dinner with pineapple tiramisu. Our waiter, Richard, was very helpful & patient.

“A real let down”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

Ever had that craving, like for a great Italian meal.Do not go here. It was a real disappointment and very pricey.

The first let down, despite a reservation, is that we were parked in front of the door so every time someone came in, a blast of cold air hit you. There were other tables, but on request, we got the cold (no pun) shoulder and were left standing. Finally the owner came to our rescue and had us in another spot, a tad better.
The menu selection was acceptable, the wines a bit over the top, but thirst and hunger were ruling. Some nice bread as a compliment as we awaited our order. The noise however depreciated any meaningful conversation. Unless you yell, as almost everyone in the establishment was doing to be heard by their companions, it makes for a frustrating evening.
The meals came, well presented, and that was all. No real flavours, all "mushed" together so to speak so you could not discern one from the other.Very heavy in the tomato sauce too which hid any other taste. When the waiter was asked for pepper etc. he disappeared but we got the owner eventually to get us the accompaniments albeit half the meal was now gone.

At the end of our meal, not desert or coffee were offered and when we asked our waiter to half the bill, he huffed and puffed and when it came he had not bothered.Oh well, his loss as NO tip!

In a nutshell, food mediocre, service poor and noisy

“I love Bella Roma!,,”
Reviewed October 7, 2012

I used to live just up the hill behind this wonderful restaurant. Not every time I visit I eat there at least once. It's amazing and I miss living near it!
