We were looking for an "upgrade" to the usual motel options in the Santa Cruz area. We tried out the Capitola Hotel, in the village of Capitola, and it turned out to be the perfect place for us. This is a great "boutique" hotel for couples and single friends. There are only 7 rooms and they are small; but very well appointed. There's real closet space, luggage stands, drawers, cabinets, small fridge and spacious bathrooms. We stayed in the Nevis room which features an "ocean view". That's a bit of a stretch; we could see a bit of the beach from the second story room, but mostly you look out on the street. We re-booked right away for next month, and will be staying across the hall in the Bonnaire room. Just as nice, overlooking the courtyard. The beds are very comfortable with soft, fluffy pillows. Nice towels and good lotion and soaps.
The village is very busy and full of shops, restaurants, galleries, etc. The crowd is mostly families, couples and young singles. This hotel is right in the middle of it, and directly across the street from the beach. The hotel provides a parking permit that you place in your car window. This allows for free parking during your entire stay. The beach, shops and restaurants are all so close by that we simply parked our car and didn't need it for the entire 2 days. And we were parked right in front of the hotel.
There will be street noise, and night life revelry...especially on weekends. The hotel provides earplugs in your room! I thought that was just great! We bring earplugs with us everywhere...so at least the hotel is not trying to pretend that it's always super quiet. Using earplugs just makes sense.
The staff was available all day and very helpful and friendly. Take advantage of their offer to make your dinner reservation at Shadowbrook Restaurant. A beautiful dining experience and within walking distance, outside of the village.
Overall an excellent place to stay to enjoy the beach and the fun of Capitola Village!
