Two things are important when staying at a bed and breakfast: the bed and the breakfast. Both were fantastic. I slept like a baby in the very comfortable bed in the Victorian Room and a delicious continental breakfast was served TO me on my semi-private porch with a stunning view. The next day when it rained, I was able to still enjoy the view with my breakfast in my room at a very spacious kitchen table. Again, it was so nice to be served breakfast, almost literally in bed.

Unfortunately, the bathrooms left a bit to be desired. Very cold (although a space heater was provided) and a not very welcoming bathtub and shower. The water pressure was fine, but the shower head was outdated and coming out of the wall and didn't provide a concentrated stream. I would have loved a soak on the cold rainy day that I visited Monarch Cove Inn, but alas, was not able to do so.

All in all, it's a great place. Beautiful surroundings, you can't beat the view, and we were treated very well by the staff.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view...it's absolutely stunning.

This was my second time staying at this property. The location is amazing, just a short 10 min. walk to Capitola Village. The rooms are cozy and the breakfast is pretty standard. The one complaint I have is that the bathrooms are freezing and there isn't a heater in them.

Room Tip: Bring your own electric heater for the bathroom and a CD or two for the player.

I have stayed here once before in the ocean view room. This time we had a dog and another person so we stayed in the carriage house. This is a wonderful place, very big with two full bedrooms, large bath and kitchen and living area. You even have your own large hot tub. The beds were wonderful and the service was also impeccable. I highly recommend this place and will certainly be back again.

The Monarch Cove Inn is one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed. The room was gorgeous and the view of the Monterrey Bay was breathtaking. I have family in Santa Cruz, and every time I visit them, I will be staying @ Monarch!

Room Tip: Ask about rooms with a view of the bay.

This was a return to MC after 10 years away. It has improved in many ways: rooms are updated, grounds are lovely. On the down side, it is surrounded by some seedy looking buildings, which are no longer part of MC. We went as a group of 6 women and rented 1 cottage and 2 Suites. The Suites are really designed for a couple, they are romantic and large. However, if you are not sharing the main bed, your accommodations are not up to the level of the main bedroom--one room (Sunny Gables) had as the second bedroom a Queen bed crammed into a small alcove with no space to move, also no door separating it from the living area. The Master bedroom area was beautiful, had a fireplace and the bath was fabulous.
The second Suite (Ocean Mist) had a stupendous Master Bedroom with a memory foam mattress and a nice second bedroom, but the second bedroom could have used a very warm comforter, the room was cold and the bed was like a rock. To the credit of MC, they replaced the mattress and the second night was so much better. The Cottage was perfect. Good beds, private hot tub, full kitchen. Anything we needed the staff found for us. The Breakfast was very good and presented attractively.

Room Tip: The second bedrooms of the Suites are better suited for children, not another couple. If you are sh...

This place is a hidden gem. Only available off season, we make a point of getting in there each year. Enjoy the ocean view from your room. Enjoy the great continental breakfast brought each morning. Enjoy Capitola for dinner and walking the nearby beaches. We enjoyed Monterey Dunes beach this time.

Room Tip: We booked the 2 Bedroom cottage with outdoor hot tub. Very nice rooms. Wonderful hot tub for 4 outsi...
