after finishing our tour of monterey, we headed over to shadowbrook for a nice meal and glad we did.
service was excellent from our waiter, glenn. he was funny and full of knowledge on the menu. he was a joy to have as our waiter. prime rib and butterfish were right on point. my husband said he had not had such a good piece of mean in a LONG time while my butterfish was fresh. save room for their homemade ice cream. wow..delish!!! shadowbrook is on the pricey side but well worth the ambiance, food and service.
be sure to walk down to the restaurant and take in the beautiful garden and ride the trolley back up after your meal..

“Brilliant meal - everyone loved it”
Reviewed September 11, 2013

We decided to treat ourselves and kids (11,9 and 5) to a really nice meal while staying in this part of the world. The restaurant came recommended by business colleagues so we booked ahead and were delighted that we did. Everything from the beautiful gardens, the river below, the food (outstanding - try the butter fish) to how they treated the kids was fantastic. Also the cable car was a real adventure for the kids as they havent been in one without snow! The ONLY little gripe I could make is to do with the Top Hat they kept mentioning to the kids that they would get to choose from at the end of the meal - a really nice idea but the execution was a bit off. The contents are too limited and the hat itself is a bit dusty looking. Update that and put in a few better trinkets and you have an all round top choice for everyone. Best meal we had in the US this summer.

“Very nice”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

I don't know if the idea of driving from downtown San Francisco was such a great idea. It took over two hours, making us a little late for our reservation. So it wasn't really a surprise when we weren't seated right away, even though I did call and let them know I would be late. Never the less, the food was good and the view was nice. The steak with back truffles, really wasn't. It was gnocchi with truffle oil and had to much garlic. But the gardens were great, and the cable car really cool.

“Top Notch, Start to Finish”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

Arrived a little early for our 7:00 pm reservations made a week ahead of time, for table for four. We were warmly greeted and seated immediately...indoors with a beautiful view of the lovely gardens and river. My husband ordered the scallops, as did my friend. Her husband ordered the seafood Chiapino, I had the 7 oz Filet Mignon, tweaked slightly due to my mushroom allergy. Celebrating our friends dual birthdays, our server Nick brought them complimentary hot fudge sundaes with lit candles while he orchestrated the customary birthday song. Although there wasn't a crumb to be found on any of our 4 meals after consumption, (homemade bread rolls were awesome) my husband and me couldn't resist ordering a sundae to split between us......just outstanding! Highly recommend the Luli Pinot Noir, which paired perfectly with each of our meals. When you receive such wonderful service and exceptional food, the price isn't anything one could squint over. It's been over 20 years since our previous visit....perfect then, we won't wait that long to go back again for another special occasion. Loved our ride back up in the darling little tram too. As two couples in our early sixties, ambiance just added to the pleasure of our evening, but I can truly see this setting as the perfect romantic place for any young man with a proposal on tap. No wonder they boast wedding venues there. We very much enjoyed a perfect evening! Thank you Shadowbrook. 8/27/2013.

“Can't get much better!”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

If you are looking for a dinning experience, your search has ended when you visit Shadowbrook Restaurant. Nestled on a hill amongst lush vegetation and next to the Soquel River with great views sets the ambiance. There is a cable car that you can use to enter or exit the restaurant. The wait staff was quick, attentive, and understand the menu, and how they are made. This is extremely important for anyone with dietary issues. The menu has beef, seafood, pasta, soup, salads, duck, chicken, and pork. Desert was on point. Mixed drinks, wine, and non alcoholic drinks are served also. Shadowbrook Restaurant will not disappoint you for that special occasion, or treat. Try it and you will ask yourself why you don't see this experience at other restaurants.
