“More beach bar than restaraunt”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2008

The good point of the restaurant is the view and beach ambiance. If this is what you want, and not a reasonable or slightly above average meal that you will come away full, then this place is for you. It says steakhouse, but it has only a few selections of steak. The rib eye was good, but for 30 with a few small mushrooms, it could have been a lot better. The meal was presentable, au gratin potatoes good, but like the vegetables very small portions. Even the bread, albeit warm, very small. The waiter was nice, but more attentive to the bar and football game on the TV. I understand we were paying for beach view and coast town; don't mind but I expect more for a $40 meal (not including bar drinks and desert). So, I will still be looking for a good steak place in this area.

“Dependable . . .”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2008

The framed review in the window said it was a 'dependable' restaurant. That it is. Decent food, but not the 4 or 5 stars it claims.

The soup - a pumpkin-squash was excellent. A tad sweet but very good. We joked with the waiter about adding eggs and serving it as a warm custard later. The cup was generous almost a substantial bowl full, so no one in our party finished it.

The rib eyes were as the two in our party said - good but not great. More grocery store quality than a $27 entree. I ordered the duck leg over golden mashed potatoes. The duck that wasn't burnt to a crunch crisp was good, a bit dry but good. The potatoes were good - a bit warmer would have been nice but the presentation probably allowed them to cool. The green beans were the highlight - perfectly prepared a slight al dente not overcooked and well seasoned.

The downside to the meal the waiters recommendation on a bottle of wine. The Pinot Noir he recommended a Gatos Locos from a local winery in Vine Hill. It was disappointing. It tasted more like a young cab then a good pinot.
