At first I was skeptic when I showed up as the ameneties are quite basic. Nevertheless, there are lots of young travelers and the crew are super funny and quite friendly. My room was super clean with a nice view of Lebanon. They even gave me extra towels and helped me in and out of the Inn.
Lovley people.

Room Tip: Check out the pool (great place to meet people)

When we booked the Metula Alaska Inn for the festive holiday in Shavuot we were promised the best. A lavish executive room with lots of windows and a wide balcony with breathtaking view. We agreed to pay more for this marvelous dream. The hotel sales person over the phone did a great job. Indeed, when we arrived for our two night's vacation, the promise became reality. Forget the over due sheets and blankets that most people willing to pay 150 Euro for that room per night will never use at home. Or the cheap soap and the impossible thin towels. The view was magnificent and we loved the room.

Hmmmm….at 6 a.m we woke up with a beam of sunlight and the room was in total day light. We tried to find the shatters on the endless windows and go back to sleep. We couldn't find them, as they didn't exist. That was a bummer. Late in the morning we told the manager of this malfunction. He reacted that none of the guests ever complain about it and offered to cover the windows with blankets. A workman came in the afternoon and worked hard to solve the problem and there faded our afternoon nap.

The second night was great. Upon checkout there was no one at reception. The manager waved us goodbye from the coffee bar across the lobby apologizing for our misfortune. No compensation was offered and no invoice was given also for our 300 Euros paid in Israeli Shekels.

I wonder what Sarah Palin would have said, experiencing a similar vacation in a hotel carry the name of the state of Alaska.

Alaska Inn is greatly located within a short walk from restaurants and Canada center. But so is probably any other place in Metula - which is a very good place to visit - the most Northern Israeli village, on the border with Lebanon.
The other good thing about the hotel - it is not expensive (compared to others).
That's about it for the positive side.
As for the Negative: AC dripped all night on the sofa which was set as a second bed, Fridge did not work, poor TV reception, bad smell from WC, the pool was closed for restoration (even though when booking, the guy was speaking enthusiastically about the pool). But worst of all - when those things were raised the next morning when I checked-out - the reception guy found an escape in rudeness.

Bottom line - don't expect much and you'll have a cheap bed in great surroundings. If, on the other hand, you want to have a good taste from your experience - avoid this place.

i read all two reviews here - and beleive it or not, I agree with both!

The ALASKA INN is not the Four Seasons, and it does not try to be. The Boutique Hotel across the street (Beit Shalom) was 1200 NIS ($330+!).... and "boutique hotel" in ISRAEL is usually an oxymoron.....The ALASKA Location is the same...and its perfect location for Metulla restaurants, Canada Center, etc.....the rate was 1/3 that.......

The rooms are not immaculate....the glasses for Coffee not so clean, and the carpets have seen better days.....but its Decent. ...the TV is a large flatscreen....the view was of the hills in Lebanon.....the manager was extremnely friendly and helpful..the breakfast was large and decent as well....Overall its a nice place to stay in Metulla.......

Listen, for anyone who knows hotels and expectations in Israel....this place is not bad.,.....Thankfully at the ALASKA - you don;t pay the price of some overstuffed, self-given 5 star rated, ego hut like so many other crappy Israel hotels.....

Decent Place

We arrived in the early evening and found our rooms not to be very clean. Our friends did not even sleep on the sheets as they said they were not clean. The air-conditioner did not work very well and the owner was rude when asking for instructions. He was even RUDER in the morning when we again voiced our complaints. The room with a view was overlooking an abandoned, dilapidated house surrounded by trash! I would steer far away from this hotel. I was tempted to dispute the charges to our credit card but felt sorry for the place as a whole as there were few guests and many, many excuses as to why things were so shabby. There was no excuse for dirty rooms.

When I first came to this hotel, I honestly didn't think it would live up to my expectations, but they were really terrific. Most of the rooms don't have internet access, but since it was a priority, they put me in one of the 2 rooms that does. They apologized profusely for the state of the room, but I really didn't mind. It was clean and had a fridge and a supermarket nearby if you prefer to buy your own food. They sent people up to make sure the phone was adequate and even called the cable company to fix the cable when there were problems. The staff is always pleasant and helpful. Even though they have a limited Kosher room service menu, they always provided service with a smile. Anything you need, just call them and ask.

  • Liked — the pride the employees take in don=ing a great job with a smile
  • Disliked — limited roomservice menu and internet access in rooms
