“Great Niseko hotel and onsen”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 17, 2011

Green leaf was very nice and exceeded our expectations.

The rooms are pretty nice and while the bathrooms are just okay, the spectacular onsen and rotenburo more than make up for that. The lockers for ski gear are very convenient.

The Breakfast buffet was pretty good with an adequate selection of western and japanese food. The lounge near the lobby has a fireplace and is nice for some unwinding and drinks at the end of the day.

Located on the slopes of Niseko Village, Green Leaf is in a nice quiet area, but also just a few minutes on the free shuttle to hirafu village if you want to go to any other restaurants or bars.

We came here on a 3 day, 2 night package from Tokyo for Y29,000 per person (including flight, bus transfers and hotel with breakfast) which was a steal given the quality of the hotel and our great experience there. Will definitely come back!

A side note is that the Hilton nearby has a free Taiko drum show on Wednesday and Saturday nights for the 2011/2012 season and we'd highly recommend that too for an entertaining and cultural experience nearby.

We took our family of 3 teenagers for a skiing holiday, and had a wonderful stay. It is a true ski in and out, with easy to reach lockers, dressing area, ski rental all with convenience in mind. That is so important for us.

Breakfast saw a wide selection of international fare and Japanese cuisine that kept us going back for refills! Even the eggs were boiled at onsen temperatures-just right! The dinner buffets were superb, with a rotating menu of the best Japanese seasonal items including my favorite Spider Crab legs. WIth some creativity, I made: Crab salad, Crab with soba noodles, Crab miso soup. I was so spoiled.

On a few good days we found ourselves traveling by shuttle bus to Hirafu side of mountain, that took a bit of extra time, but it meant we could lunch in some other restaurants.

So for a no-fuss, easy and convenient Ski holiday with onsen experience in Niseko, Green Leaf was a good choice for us, and we would go again!

We stayed here for a long weekend mid February 2011.

Wow what a great renovation! The owners have done a superb job turning a very tired looking Japanese hotel into a bang up to date, trendy, cozy and well equipped hotel. Looking around at our fellow guests the hotel appeals to Westerners and Japanese alike. The decor is superb, from the locker room, to the bar through to the rooms. It's an extremely relaxing place to come back to after a long day on the slopes. The room was bright and airy, we choose an ski slope facing room and it didn't disappoint, with a huge window.

It is definitely a very easy ski in/out hotel. The indoor and outdoor onsens were perfect. The massages on offer looked great, unfortunately I did not have time to partake. The unadvertised happy hour in the bar from 5-7pm was a welcome surprise!

I only have 3 criticisms to make. First, they could have made more of an effort updating the bathrooms. Second, the breakfast/dinner buffets were great in quantity, but a bit lacking in quality and variation over the 3 days.

Lastly, the much hyped roof top bar 'Altitude' was disappointing. We fancied a quick drink surrounded by snow before dinner. But were disappointed to find it was literally some benches around a fire pit! No comfortable cushions or glamourous fur throws!

I would definitely stay here again!

We went to Niseko during the Chinese New Year holiday in February and as part of a package we stayed at the Green Leaf in Niseko Village.

First of all the location ... being in Niseko Village, the hotel is a bit isolated from the action of Hirafu, it's about a 15 min shuttle bus ride to Hirafu (which often is very full). Even getting to the Hilton, which is also Niseko Village requires a 5 min shuttle bus ride.

The hotel itself has just been refurbished, so everything is relative new and typical Japanese style, very clean. However, the rooms tend to be very small (we just had a standard room) and somewhat not as nice as they looked on the website, not bad but just rather plain. The bathroom was very small, clean, utilitarian, and kind of boring.

The Green Leaf however had a pretty decent onzen, both in & outdoor for men and women, and I enjoyed it a lot. There was a buffet breakfast and dinner that was included in our package, no exactly gourmet, but a good variety of food including crab legs and claws, yum!.Staff was helpful amd courteous enough, especially those at the reception.

The more material complaint that I have was, the have this beautiful outdoor area called 'Altitude - Roof Top Bar", which facing the slope with a real wood fireplace .... perfect for apres-ski, you would think? Well when my friends and I got there, we asked the staff if we could have some beers, they mentioned that they don't serve drinks there. What?!?! a 'Roof top Bar' that doesn't serve drinks? When we asked for food, we go the same response, we ended up having to buy beer from the vending machine and grabbing a bag of chips from my room. It wasn't until the manager of not just the hotel, but the global hotel chain came out and spoke to us, were we able to get some food!

I guess it is a cultural thing ... while courteous, I thought the staff was just too rigid and a bit inflexible. Hopefully with the new international management, they can adopt a more consumer oriented service level.

All-in-all, I had a decent impression, but due to the location, I'd probably not go back since I like to be closer to the town. However if you like peace and quiet in the evening, it's not too bad.

p.s. couple of more minor gripes, 1) the doors don't lock automatically when you close them ... I guess I'm just so use to doors locking once they closed, I kept forgeting to lock it. Which became quite embarrassing, as some other guest had barged into our room accidently, which is not very nice. 2) While there is free internet, I could get a signal in my room.

Stayed in a lot hotels within the last year, but the new green leaf definatly belongs to my absolute top hotels!
The renovation did end of 2010 makes this hotel to a luxery but young feshioned ski in ski out hotel directly based next to the fantastic powder slopes!
For japan, the rooms are very big! With huge windows to see the snow falling. Only the bathrooms seemed not to be in the focus during the renovation. But also ok!
Restaurant is good and tasteful but- in my opinion- too expensiv.
The hotel staff was excellent - especially the fluently english speaking front desk managerin.
She helped us in a very kind way to resolve our problems with the ski rental company! (not the hotel one)

Overall i can really just recommand to go there. We had some great days!

I can't really get over just how beautiful this hotel is. It's recently been renovated and they did an amazingly good, thoughtful job. The rooms are lovely--very nice beds, well lit, even the art is good. I had seen pictures of the hotel before going, but was really impressed in person.

Aside from being so stylish, it's a very comfortable way to ski--ski-on, ski-off, well designed ski lockers, a variety of massages and treatments, and a lovely onsen with both indoor and outdoor pools. Sitting in the onsen outside while the snow falls--amazing!

The food is fine. I was really impressed with the buffet the first meal I ate: dumplings, sushi, salad, lots of different curries and stir-fries, fresh pineapple, a miso soup station...
But by the end, the buffet felt a bit repetitive-and som nights the selection wasn't so varied (I caught myself with rice, bread, and a baked potato on my plate one night---and would say in general that there could be more protein).

THe staff is awesome--amazingly helpful. And there is free wifi everywhere-including in your (amazing) room.

The snow covered ski slope was just sooo beautiful. Perfect spot to take memorable photos. The view from room was also fantastic. The only minus point was the food which was not that fantastic compared to other hotels we stayed in hokkaido.
