The largest inn that in it's day held samurai and high-ranking officials in Tsumago. The house itself is stunning and the English-speaking guide gave us a very detailed insight into the history of the building. Behind the original structure is a series of old treasury buildings converted into a historical museum about the Kiso valley, the importance of the forests to the local economy. Very interesting indeed. Highly recommend spending an hour or two wandering through the exhibits.
