“Great Rooms!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2014

This hotel is a little off the beaten track, and the track is pretty rough.
Once up on the Hotel's forecourt level, though, it is a little world of it's own.
Our room was enormous, with a separate sitting room we barely used. King bed, arm chairs and a table in the bay window, very big flash bathroom- it is all pretty 5 star for a 3 star price.
Dining room has great views, particularly of the local attraction- the Airport.
Fortunately the aircraft aren't too big and not very frequent.
An unusual attraction in the mornings is seeing all the kids coming to the school below in their great traditional uniforms- very well-mannered but playful, just like kids everywhere.
Staff are terrific, especially the girls who lug your suitcases up the 3 or 4 floors!

Room Tip: Rooms 302 and 402 are big and have windows on two sides + balconies.

We were a group of 10 , and stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel is located very close to the airport . Staff was extremely helpful and courteous. Paro Dzong at night looks very pretty from the Hotel and one can get some nice photos.

Each room has a private balcony and overlooks the valley towards the Dzong. Peaceful and quiet mornings .

Situated out of town at the end of an unmade road ... and that is probably the only disadvantage

The room was fine with the usual items. But what stood out was the helpful and willing attitude of the staff in the reception and in the restaurant.

We left early (0630) on both mornings that we stayed here (once to get to Taktsang, the other to leave for Kathmandu) and on both occasions they willingly arranged to have someone cook omelettes and provide breakfast.

The food at dinner was excellent with a much wider range and better quality food than at many other buffets

As a group travelling with Bhutan Wilderness Travel, we had 2 nights at Hotel Drukchen, the staff helped us at every stage. Close to the airport for a 4.30 am start! The restaurant was well equipped with a variety of buffet breakfast and also dinner after a strenuous trek to Taksang Monastery. Fabulous rooms, well equipped bathroom and a minibar. Wifi, hairdryer, heaters, comfy beds. Electric blanket. Quiet, nothing more required me thinks.

We stayed one night in this hotel. Everything was brand new. Some of the items still have some remnants of plastic covering.

Room was spacious. Bathroom was spacious too. There are 3 wall heaters - bedroom, sitting area and bathroom. However, given the size of the room and the big windows, the heaters are not sufficient to keep the room warm. That's the only downside about the room.

Food was good. We requested noodles in soup and they obliged. Warm soupy noodles served within half hour. The complimentary tea came with cookies! Breakfast was good.

The paintings on the walls around the hotel and the wood carvings are simply beautiful!

The Drukchen is a new hotel, not quite finished, but one that will be nice once completed. Located in a neighborhood overlooking the Paro Airport, it is approximately 2 km from the town of Paro in the direction of the Tiger's Nest Monastery.

The rooms are spacious and well-appointed. However, all lamps, fans, etc are not yet connected. It appears they are still working on putting the hotel together. The WiFi is totally functional from the lobby, but intermittent at best from the rooms.

The buffet style breakfasts and dinners are of a decent quality. The management and employees will always try to help you do whatever you need done.

Room Tip: Ask for a room as high up as possible. As with other hotels within neighborhoods in Bhutan, the dogs...
