From the minute we checked in until we left a day later, sadly, we had a fabulous experience at this property. Our butler was great and the room and food was over the top. This, along with the Uma in Punakha was the best food hands down in Bhutan. The property itself is very lovely and the spa experience was great. The shop in the hotel was lovely as well.

Room Tip: We were in a little cottage on the grounds of the property and our cute valet picked us up in a golf...

Dear Diane P,

Greetings from the Kingdom of Bhutan!

Thank you for such a kind review of our properties in Paro and Punakha Valley’s. As you mentioned, our Bukhari restaurants feature what is arguably the best cuisine in all Bhutan. I am thrilled to hear you enjoyed your dining experiences as well as your treatments in our COMO Shambhala Retreats. I will pass your compliments to the team as we greatly value guest feedback.

Please come and visit us once again, here in the Himalayas. We look forward to welcoming you back to COMO.

I have stayed at Uma Paro 4 nights in a Villa and this resort is truly a luxury place and beautiful located with a stunning view over the Paro valley. I was amazed about the attentive and service and welcoming employees. They would anticipate every wish and they leave nothing to be desired. I have also stayed at Punakha by COMO and this tiny resort (11 rooms) was just top-notch. I felt like being home far away from home and not speaking about the faboulous outlook from there to the Punakha Valley! The entire trip was magical and I will return soon!

Room Tip: book the villa with own butler. there is a separate living room with cozy fireplace.

Stayed in this resort for five nights prior to travel elsewhere in Bhutan. I can say without a doubt this is the best resort in all of Bhutan (if you're venturing out to other locations within Bhutan, the Amankora offers the best options in other cities).

The arrival was efficient, warm, and welcoming. We received a tour of the property to help us get acclimated. The resort is comprised of a main building where there are several suites/rooms, plus the spa, pool, fitness center, library, bar, restaurant, and administrative offices, plus several separate villas. Each villa has a large five-piece bath, a bedroom, and a living room with small dining table. Some of the villas have a separate spa room where you can do yoga, house another guest, or have massage treatments. The villas also have a wood fireplace and an outdoor seating area. The villas are scattered across the property.

We were assigned a butler who anticipated many of our needs (handled our laundry, cleaned our hiking boots, made our dinner reservations, put wood in the fire, etc.). He (as did all of the other staff we encountered) appeared to truly care about our experience.

The facilities were top-notch (clean, well-kept, appropriately stocked, etc.)
The service was efficient and unobtrusive
The restaurant was some of the best food we had our entire time in Bhutan (or India for that matter). We ate in the restaurant, had room service, made special requests and were generally demanding customers; all was taken in stride and well-executed.

The Internet was average but wifi was available everywhere. The electricity went out a couple of times while we were in residence, but that was unnoticeable.

The spa was great. We followed the butler's recommendation and had a hot stone bath and massage after a long hike. It was divine.

One significant differentiator, and what truly set this property apart for us, was the friendliness and genuine warmth of the staff. Everyone from the spa to the kitchen to the front desk to the housekeepers made us feel like their mission was to ensure we were taken care of. This was in contrast to the Amankora, which while the service was equivalent in its efficiency, seemed kind of cold and rote rather than genuine.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends, and I can't wait to come back again.

Room Tip: Got with a villa, it's worth the extra cost and affords a butler who can help with your needs on...

Very luxurious resort, with beautiful grounds and lovely rooms. We had a villa with a butler and the accommodation and service could not have been bettered. Dinner the first night was served just for us in the courtyard of the main hotel, with a fire burning, and brilliant food. The next evening, we had dinner in the villa; the staff lit the exterior with flags and flares. Again, the food was perfect; the service was impeccable. There was archery, the Bhutanese national sport, taught in the grounds. Lovely place and the GM was superb. We all loved it.

Room Tip: Friends had a suite in the main hotel, which was lovely and included a kitchen. The villa was stunni...

I managed a group of 24 upscale American, European and Australian clients at Uma for 5 nights in early May 2014. The property is absolutely gorgeous. I highly recommend the villas, which come with a butler and private spa room. The service was impeccable, food incredible (they have brought in top-quality chefs from Bali and Thailand) and guides/activities excellent. The group also raved about the spa treatments. Martin, the new General Manager, is extremely attentive, accessible and manages a tight-ship. Bhutan is a friendly and unique destination and this hotel is gorgeous.

Room Tip: Valley view rooms and villas are recommended.

Everything about the intimate and serene Uma Paro is exceptional, from the exquisite grounds and rooms to the food and service. As long as you are going to Bhutan, don't undermine your experience with a cold room and blah tourist food; upgrading your accommodation is totally worth it, and Uma Paro was definitely the most memorable of the 5* hotels we stayed in (and among the most beautiful hotels I have ever visited). Absolutely superlative.
