“Another wonderful Uma hotel in Bhutan”
Reviewed September 21, 2013

We loved our stay in Hotel Uma Punakha so we had high expectations for the Paro location. Happy to say we weren't disappointed.

It was a wonderful place to end our visit to Bhutan. Our room was fabulous, spacious with a wonderful view of the mountains from our room. We loved the heated towel racks, the fluffy robes, the wonderful scent that floats through the entire hotel. They have a specially created oil which they use to scent all the public spaces. We loved it so much we went and bought 3 bottles in the gift shop ($20/bottle but worth it).

Once again the staff were attentive, offering professional service and always greeted you with a smile.

Breakfast & dinners were great with delicious western & Bhutanese selections. You could mix & match to your hearts content.
.
Kudos to the staff and management for providing s wonderful hotel experience on our last days in Bhutan.

P.S. I accidentally marked excellent spa experience but I never used it. Did it by accident snd cent figure out how to take it off.

Room Tip: Room 36 had a gorgeous view of the mountain & valley views.

The room was fantastic! What sweetened the experience was the heated bars in the toilet for the towels :) This little detail made a whole lot of difference to us as it showed that they care even for the tiniest of things. Of course the food was awesome especially the breakfast which we enjoyed immensely. The stay help us end our trip to Bhutan on a perfect note! Kudos to the team and all at Uma Paro.

We actually booked the deluxe room to enjoy the view of the Paro valley. But when we checked in, all the deluxe rooms were under renovation. Instead we were put into the villa which was a really pleasant surprise. Friendliness of the hotel staff from the hotel manager to the waiters was always there. Since we were staying at the villa, we had a personal butler, Pema who arranged everything for us. I must say that Pema is a really thoughtful guy and always had foresight to organise things in advance without us asking. I must really compliment him. After our hike from the Tiger's Nest, we had tea in the restaurant first before going back to our room. Pema arranged that the fireplace was burning and the bathtub was filled with hot scented water and flowers, the incense burner was filling the room with fragrance. For a tired and sweaty person to come back to the room like that was incredible. Pema also arranged to pack our breakfast when we checked out early in the morning for our flight.

We also tried the restaurant and the food was great (western style), compliments to the chef. We only stayed 2 nights here, and I wished that we could have stayed longer.

I have to be honest that staying at Uma Paro was one of the reasons I first thought on going to Bhutan, around five year ago. And the dream came true, and it was better than expected. The hotel is beautiful, secluded in a green park, in traditional bhutanese design. The inside is very elegant and modern, but yet super cozy. You are in Bhutan, even if in a five stars hotel. We got the Garden View room, which was not really impressive, although it was confortable and modern, with some Bhutanese touches. The hotel, with is glass walls is also beautiful, and the food (western style) was very good, altough not amazing. The breakfast, though, was spectacular. Still dreaming with the organge cake. The real star of this hotel is actually the service. It was probably one of the kindest and efficients hotel services I ever had in my life. From the front desk manager to room service, everyone impressed us! It was just great!

Room Tip: The views of the garden room are nothing spectacular

My husband and I took the 5 days discovery package from Uma, we have stayed in both hotel in Paro and Punahka! The 1st night we had given a small room with no balcony and AC on ground floor, it was slightly disappointed and I have told the hotel staff of my disappointment for the room. They are so smart and kind to offer us upgrade to villa for the rest of 4 nights for both Punahka and Paro! The villa in Paro is big! it even has an additional room for massage! The bathroom is huge like the bedroom! And the villa in Punahka has an amazing mountain and river view! The hotel is new and the design is lovely! I feel totally chill in heaven! The hot stone bath and massage we had in Punahka is totally beyond my expectation! The hot stone bath was with locally herbs and has very fresh smell! The therapists have done very good job and the pressure is just perfect!
Only disappointment is the food which i think can be improved! The vegetable I ordered was not fresh, it turned yellowish! There are more varieties and the food taste much better in Uma Paro!Overall, the food is very healthy and there are many different type of juices! For someone who want to detox and opts for a healthy diet, I think the food selection is pretty good!
I also like the presentation of the food and the design of the restaurant in Paro.
The staffs are super friendly and helpful! We did archery 1 afternoon with our butler, he is super caring send us cookies and tea after we are done! I think Bhutanese people are 1 of the most friendly people I have ever met while travelling abroad, they are honest and humble. The manager in Uma is so kind, he always come over and checks if we are happy with the service, the room and the tour!
Our tour guide Uti (not sure spelling) and our driver are super! They are so professional and offered us amazing experience!
I really recommend people who come to Bhutan to stay in Uma! I would definitely check out other hotels of Como group in other locations!

One of the most comfortable and enjoyable experience we ever had.
Great rooms, with vistas over Paro valley. The room was tidy, the bed was big and comfortable, and the view from the balcony was just amazing.
The service was personal, professional, and just perfect.
Stay there if you can!

Room Tip: Any room with a balcony

We were only in Bhutan for a week and stayed at both Como hotels in the country. The other property is in Punaka and both were exceptional. We have styled at other Como hotels before (Maldives and Bangkok) and this was up to the same standard - excellent! The food is great and the staff really nice and helpful. We had a guide who looked after us during the week and took us out on day trips called Carma and he worked with a driver called Sonam. They were both really cool and happy to go at whatever pace we wanted too.

The hotel and Bhutan is somewhere you have to go to, a real gem where you can totally kick back and relax.

Well done Como Hotels!
