“Good food and friendly people”
Reviewed December 7, 2012

The owner is from Pune and her daughter managing the restaurant has studied from Bangalore, India.
She was very friendly and helpful. They donot have an extensive menu which is common everywhere in Bhutan.
But, the food was simple and perfect. We went there twice for lunch and dinner.
The serving size is huge for the Chinese fare. Make sure u inform them about the spice level you can take. The Indian food can be a bit spicy.
They donot have a wide range of beers or drinks, but it still gives u the feeling of a well managed small restaurant cafe.

“Best restaurant in Paro, hands down!”
Reviewed December 2, 2012

I've been to almost all the resto's here in Paro and there is a reason I always come back to Sonam Trophel. It's delicious. Food may be a little slow, but it's because it's all fresh cooked as opposed to some prepared places elsewhere in town. The mother who runs the place is a local icon and so sweet. It's a family run place and you really feel like a part of the family and welcomed here. Also, their momo (dumplings) are so good!! If you want cheese one's you need to order super in advance and at least 5 orders (25 dumplings) but it's so worth it as they are so stellar. (you need to order so many as the steamer is a big one and needs to use all the space) I generally order them, then the one's I can't eat I give to local kids. Who doesn't love a dumpling???

Do yourself a favor and come here. After you don't need to thank me as your happy stomach is more than thanks enough. :)

“Excellent, simple and good, a luxury in Paro!”
Reviewed November 13, 2012

Finally, after insisting, we could escape the traditional hotel buffet with blend food for tourists. This small restaurant is simple but warm, and the food is authentic and good. Delicious Indian currys, good momos, etc. Everything we had was tasty, good and moderately priced. Thank you!

“Good meal.......”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

It is located in bright yellow building on first floor in main market of Paro.
The place is small with sitting arrangement for approx 20-22 people and is owned by a lady, who studied in Pune, India. She is a nice person to interact with.
The place is run by a younger girl and when she is on her weekly off then the lady with her son takes care of the place.
They serve veg as well as non veg food and quality of food is quite good. We tried soups, noodles, fried rice, spinach with rice, bhutanese pork with rice, American choupsy and really nice crispy pakodas. They takes about 35-40 minutes minimum to serve the food after you order becoz they prepare fresh but this is a regular practice all over Bhutan.
I must recommend this place for food when you are in Paro.
