“Very nice and comfortable hotel at Paro”
Reviewed March 5, 2013

It is not easy to find relatively big and good hotels in Bhutan. Although, most of them are great in terms of hospitality and friendliness. This hotel is big, according to Bhutan standards, with big rooms, good food and an extraordinary massage center. I tried the house speciality and was great. The lady knew how to give a relaxing but invigorating Tibetan Massage. Only 10 minutes from the airport. Nevertheless, 15 minutes from the city.

sadly, we only stayed in the lovely resort overnight, mainly to be able to catch our flight back to India on time. The staff was very helpful, although they did try to push the Spa quite a bit. The food in the restaurant was excellent, as we had all three meals here - both Indian and Bhutanese. Breakfast could have been bit better without the over-fried ham.
The rooms are vast, but did get a bit nippy at night but the soothing noise of a rushing river helped me get to bed. What I did not like was the very weak lights between the cottages and the main lobby/dining area, the path is clear but a bit uneven and at night that could potentially be a problem.

Room Tip: Take the Eco-Lodges next to the Paro-Chu river and facing the airport

We stayed at Tashi Namgay Resort in Paro primarily because of its incredible convenience to the airport, from which we had to depart very early in the morning the next day. The hotel is not convenient whatsoever to any other place in Paro, unless you have a car or take a taxi. Our room was modern and nice, although rather cold, both in temperature and in decor. One had to step up to get to the bathroom, which is always a awkward in the middle of the night. The bathroom itself was also cold and spartan, although at least the shower worked. The restaurant on the premises was good, with a very good selection of food. It was the best thing about our stay at this hotel. Although we specifically requested a wake-up telephone call on the morning of our departure, we did not receive one. The staff seemed a bit "out to lunch" and confused when we asked during checkout about their failure to give us the requested wake up call. This place is perfectly OK and functional for a country that is entering the last century during the first years of this one, but I would hardly call it fantastic as some of the reviewers on this site have done.

We just returned from Bhutan, having spent three nights at Tashi Namgay Resort. We had a wonderful time, and the staff was outstanding. My wife had been injured earlier in our travels and the people at Tashi went out of their way to make our room work for my wife. Truly wonderful people. It was also great to hear the flow of the river outside our room.

Room Tip: Room 101 overlooked the river. Great room

I enjoyed this property more than any other I stayed in over the course of 11 days in Bhutan. Consistent hot water in the shower, comfortable beds, very clean rooms and the food was great every meal. I enjoyed 3 nights here and feel as though I had a good feel for the property. While the location is a bit far from the main part of town, the setting on the Paro river with views of the airport and the town in the distance was really quite perfect. Even though it was an additional cost - but fairly pieced - Internet was the most reliable I had in Bhutan. While I experienced incredible service throughout Bhutan, the staff at the Tashi Namgay Resort was really top notch. They really cared that you enjoyed your time at their property - especially the restaurant staff. I will definelty begin and end my next trip to Bhutan at this hotel.

This hotel has the authentic Bhutanese wooden details around the upper floor. The rooms are spacious and clean. The owners were very hospitable and quick to correct a malfunctioning hot water tank. The food in the restaurant was satisfactory. Despite the proximity to the airport, the rooms were surprisingly quiet. The rooms facing the courtyard also have a view of Paro.

Beautiful place, 10min. from the airport.
Staff are helpful and friendly. First impression of this place it could be 5 star if this place is properly manage.
Got to my room125 - lovely suite with separate living area and a small kitchen.
Toilet is very spacious but I felt rather chilly. Then I realize they use small heaters that looks like radio sitting on the floor. Each small heater in each room. Still it is not enough to warm the place.
Lunch was very ordinary. Dinner buffet spread feels like typical lounge Happy Hour spread in hotels with lots of fried stuff. Asked for wine list and selection is very poor. Only 1 type of Bhutanese wine (white or red) and serve in bottle. I tried the white Bhutanese white, too sweet for my liking.
Internet is a dismal. They charge you based on 1hr or 6hr voucher. Twice my 6hr voucher failed to work. I sent a 3.1MB file and took me 10min. to go through.
Stayed at Thimphu Hotel Migmar and internet is free (in room and reception). Stayed at Paro Hotel Khangkhu Resort and wifi is free but only near the reception area.

In terms of similar star and budget in Paro. Hotel Khangkhu is way better when it comes to food and service. Hotel Khangkhu staffs are all very pleasant and try their best to please you.
Room and toilet are well heated. Does not look as fancy as Tashi Namgay resort, but I'll strongly recommend Hotel Khangkhu if internet is not crucial to you.
