“Great breakfast place”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

I was disappointed in the beef ribs, slaw, etc for a BBQ place, but whoa!, their breakfasts are great. Good value, good food, great service. The pies look REALLY inviting, but I'm resisting temptation - so far.....

“OK, Old Style Barbeque Dining”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

The Original Hick'ry Pit on Campbell Avenue has been there for (seemingly) decades. The fare is basic barbequed meats (chicken, pork, beef) and burgers with all the fixings - salads, bbq beans, fire roasted corn, and so on. Food is good, generous portions and reasonable prices. Excellent bbq sauce served with everyhting. The Pit also has pastries and pies cooked in house and they are excellent. Ambiance is a 1960's style coffee shop. Well staffed with every waiter/waitress busy, working diligently, and super friendly and efficient. My only complaint about my visit was that every patron in the entire restauarnt ate with their coats on - it was uncommonly cold inside. In the middle of winter, these guys need to turn on the heater!

“Great burgers!”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

I tried the fresh ground burgers the first time and haven't tried anything else since. Burgers are big & juicy, served w/ fries. The burgers aren't cheap, but not too pricey either ... about $10 which includes fries. Typical diner - nothing special, but the service is good. They have fresh baked pies, but been too full to try.

“Absolutely awful - worst ribs ever!”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

This was one of the worst meals I have ever had. The 'world famous original ribs' were very fatty, greasy and completely lacking in flavour, the St. Louis ribs hardly any better. Even the coleslaw was awful, being coated in some kind of sugary syrup rather than mayo.
If you like soft, tender ribs that have been marinated to be full of flavour then do not go here. The restaurant itself is old and tired, the food over-priced, the service average - despite leaving almost a full plate the waitress didn't even ask if there was a problem.

“Try the Cole Slaw”
Reviewed October 12, 2012

Good as always. A little pricey, but the meat is incredible. Everything is smoked on the premises. I had the French Dip with Tri-Tip. Don't forget to try the coleslaw. It's the best.
