We had a great time.
Our hotel was at the Marriott, Hacienda Pinilla · Guanacaste, which is 2.5 hours away. We left the hotel around 7:30 so we could spend the whole day (arrived around 10:00).
Most of the trip was on 2 lane paved road but the last bit was a drive though the mountains that was beautiful but rough (last 9 or so kms is dirt road).
Note: We actually rented a car mainly for this trip because the cost of the trip almost doubled if we were picked up from the hotel by a guide. The savings paid for the rental and we were able to use it on other trips too.
Once we arrived we were greated with a nice tropical fruit drink and a cool towel. On the first leg of the activity we took horses through the forest and then hiked to some falls. It rained on us but didn't "dampen" the trip at all. We didn't see much wild life but the falls were good and we did see some really interesting cutter ants all along the trail.
After the water fall we took the horses to the top of a mountain to begin the zip line leg of the trip. We zip lined from the top of the mountains back down to the hotel for lunch (I believe it was 9 different zip lines).
The lunch was nice (soup, cheese, main course (local choices), desert) and the setting was a very beautiful open air patio that was nice and cool.
After lunch we enjoyed the water features of the trip. First we sat in a sauna that was built over a volcano vent that was very neat (puffs of steam would come through the floor). Then we spread hot mud freshly gathered from a volcano vent and let it dry. Then we dipped ourselves into a series of hot, warm, and cool pools. We repeated the sequence a couple of times. We could have have stayed longer if we didn't run out of time (it was around 3:45 PM and wanted to be back before dark).
A great trip well worth the time and money.
