“So pretty and comfortable”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013 via mobile

We loved our stay at this hotel. We are a family of 5, and thus had 2 rooms. One had a tv and coffee pot and the other didn't. That was fine with us. The grounds are beautiful and the activities offered by the hotel are so fun. We enjoyed horseback riding, inner-tubing, and zip-lining. The hike nearby on the volcano was one of the best we've ever been on. The staff was super friendly and helpful! They even fed us breakfast the day we showed up late! The only things that kept it from getting 5 stars was that it is so remote, it's a long drive to go out dinner anywhere else, and the meals at the hotel were a little expensive.

Thank you very much for your nice comments, we are so glad that you had such a great time, families have lots of fun at Hacienda Guachipelin and the activities we offer are great for all ages.
I will make sure to tell the staff your good comments about them, we work hard in offering excellent service.
Yes you are right, it could be kind of remote, but is the only way to be that close to Rincón de la Vieja National Park and surrounded by nothing but nature.
We hope you can come back and visit us son.

Very simple accomodations in the rincon de la vieja volcanoe area. Overall impression as follows:

Pros:
-food was decent
-rooms were decent but very simple. beds were hard.
-grounds of the property were beautiful-lots of parrots and other wild birds.
-lots of locals stay at this hotel, which is nice to see when you are visiting a foreign country.

Cons:
-poor sound insulation between rooms
-lots and lots of bugs- bring bug spray
-my husband got bitten by three ticks while we were on the horseback riding outing offered through the hotel. We would definitely not recommend the horse back riding!!! Luckily, as far as we could tell, costa rica does not have lime disease, but it was still a scary experience.
-pool seemed dirty. We didn't even venture near it.

Hello, Thank you very much for your comments and advice, we feel happy that you enjoyed our rooms and food on the hotel. Regarding the itching bugs, it is a hotel in the middle of the forest and very close to a National Park, this means there is a lot of wild life on the surroundings, as you say, birds, and others, bugs come along too. Bug spray is recommended if this happens, that doesn´t happen all the time.
We are sorry for the ticks, we have more than 100 horses, we do our best to keep them away, and we are very succesful with this, but they are always on the surroundings.
No disease will occur.

I just want to start by talking about how awesome the staff were!!! There are so many people employed at this hacienda and ALL of them were wonderful. When you passed an employee they all said Hola to you and made you feel welcome to be there. The bright and fun personalities of the employees made it fun during all the activities, having meals and hanging out at the bar. We booked a canyoneering activity and were the only two booked. Instead of canceling and rescheduling us (which is done in the U.S. because of lack of profit) they took us out and went out of their way to make it fun and exciting for us.
We did have one problem related to transportation to and from the national park, but when we made management aware of the problem they did something very cool for us to make up for it and every time we saw the manager after that he made a effort to ask us how we were doing and if he could do anything for us.
The rooms were large and very clean. The pool was clean and refreshing. The meals were good but not stellar in the choices available. The food was expensive, but I found on our trip across CR that food was expensive most places we went.
I would visit again.

Only stayed for one night but is was a great experience. The staff was wonderful, the breakfast was amazing. We arrived lat at night and the staff was kind enough to open the bar area and prepare us some fresh fruit, I still remember how good it was. Don't forget to hike the Rincon de la Vieja park.

I liked this hotel and would definitey recommend it. Its at the base of the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano and the grounds are really pretty. There are hammocks outside each hotel room, so at the end of the day I sat and read. The hotel has a free shuttle to the hot springs, which are free to hotel guests, and to the national park ($10 entrance fee). The pool is really nice and there is an Activity Center to sign up for river tubing (really fun!), horseback riding (eh- trail horses aren't my favorite), zip lining, canopy tours, hikes, etc. Hacienda Guachipelin is a working ranch and raises cattle and horses so I saw horses were grazing right near my hotel room. The staff is incredibly nice and hard working. The rooms are fine -- the only real draw back was an uncomfortable bed. Breakfast was decent and most items on the menu were good. One odd thing was you couldn't order from the bar menu if you were in the restaurant - even though its the same kitchen. You're basically in the middle of nowhere, so the hotel restaurant is the only option, FYI. Overall, I recommend the hotel. I've very glad I stayed here rather than driving two hours from Tamarindo for the activities like a lot of people I met on activities.

The locals and staff were very friendly and helpful, most spoken broken English. The adventure tour was phenomenal! I love how it was coordinated, safe & action packed! Two members of the staff really stood out to us, the Bartender Jorge & a student Biologist named Cesar. Jorge was very friendly, welcoming, interactive & had a great memory, as he remembered our names, room number & what drinks we liked throughout our week stay! Cesar was friendly as well, he possessed excellent communication skills and spoke very good English. He was very insightful and provided us with much rich history and information on the country, Guachepelin, and of course the wildlife! He was undoubtably "one with the earth" as he handled animals with respect and care and they seemingly responded to him as an equal. We greatly appreciated how helpful he was and absolutely recommend him above any of the other staff for any tour!!!

Husband and I travelled with our 2 grown daughters, and shared 2 rooms in January 2012. I was not offered an option for this date, as I am late in posting this review, so chose January 2013. Loved the food. It is served buffet style, and it was not really gourmet, yet delicious, fresh, with plentiful choices. The rooms were spacious, and very attractive. Tile floors, very artistic and organic feeling. Each room had its own hammock right outside the entrance, a nice touch. Free entrance to the nearby mud baths and natural hot tubs (of variable heats) was really unique and fun to experience. We splurged and added an outdoor massage for each of us (in complete privacy of course). We enjoyed a hike to a gorgeous waterfall deep in the forest, within walking distance of the hotel. Swam there, too and got under it for a nice waterfall shoulder massage.. There was a funny and entertaining bull-riding show on the property the first night we were there. All in all the place was an excellent value, both the rooms and the food. And the location, so close to the Rincon de la Vieja National Park entrance, cannot be beat. Family friendly, but would be great for couples too.
