Hacienda Guachipelin
Reviewed January 12, 2013

Stayed here for two nights in January 2013. Ours was a standard room, and it was just that: small shower, small sink, and toilet, with nowhere to put anything in the bathroom. The room had one tiny chair a double bed and a single bed. Bed sheets are the thickness of old hankies, pillows are old and tiny. The room was clean and bug free. The restaurant was adequate but not inspired in any way. The buffet costs $18US which is reasonable for your choices. No meat is offered at breakfast which is included in your stay. The pool is small, not heated and there are only eight uncomfortable wooden pool chairs available. There are several adventure tours available from the sight and people enjoyed them. We went to the hoot springs and had several enjoyable hours there. Two nights was enough of a stay here.

Room Tip: Go for more than a standard unless you like hostels

Hello mmff4 , we are glad to know that some things were of your liking, like the meals and the hot springs.
Some of our standard rooms have a double and a single bed, but that is just a few, the rest have 2 doubles, and we have some of our large rooms, with just 1 queen size bed, some with 1 king size bed. There are 2 family rooms that have 3 beds.
We do not heat the pool, since most of our visitors, Europeans and environmentally conscious north americans do not require that, plus when the weather is nice and warm , everybody loves a swim with fresh water.
Pura Vida !!!

Hotel is based around the activities and although the staff were friendly and helpful it was a busy hotel with a lot of day visitors. Room was nice and it was very quiet at night. Enjoyed the horse riding to the waterfall and visited the hot springs. We did a short hike in the National Park and saw the mud pools. Be warned we got badly bitten by bugs when we came out of the hot springs and in the park. Food in the restaurant was ok but there is no other option. No fridge in the room, which was a surprise. Lots of activities for people younger and fitter than us.

Hello Ann R, thanks for reviewing Guachipelin on TA. We are happy to know that you enjoyed the silent at night and the waterfalls and the horseback rides.
The National park is the most visited in Guanacaste.
We are noting the observation about activities, and we have activities for everyone, but it seems that need to inform a lot better our guests.
We are also working on the issue of the refrigerator for the rooms, some do have a fridge.
Pura vida.

Fabulous place. Stayed 2 nights and could stay more. Nice retreat near the national park. The receptionist Anna was absolutely lovely and upgraded our room. The rooms were very clean and the shower was good! Great value for money. No options for dinner outside the hotel and the in-house restaurant is very simple.

IshayF thanks your your feedback on Guachipelin. We hope to see you soon at Guachipelin.
Ana, she is very nice to our guests and she has lots of positive reviews.
We are trying hard to inform our guests about the possibilities for eating outside of Guachipelin, but we will try harder. We have to options, more casual at Alberto's Bar downstairs from the restaurant, and then the Soda at the parks entrance and Rincon de la Vieja Lodge. Also there is an option in town, another Soda. Not many choices, but there are a few.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, this is the only way to see how is it that we are doing our job.
Pura vida !!!

We only had one full day to spend and opted to go on the canopy tour offered by Guachipelin Hacienda Adventure Tours. It was AWESOME! We also hiked into the Rincon de la Vieja National Park and that was short, but worthwhile! The accommodations at Guachipelin Hacienda were great and the food was good. Pura Vida!

Room Tip: For a family of three our superior room accommodations were very good.

Hola 808BarbE , thanks for writing on TA's Forum . Glad to know that the tours were "...awesome..." On your next trip to Rincon de la Vieja you should hike to Azufrales (the sulfur spring) and La Cangreja Waterfall (another rio celeste phenomenon) so you can enjoy other hikes and get more from the National Park.
The main thing in the park is the volcanic activity, since the summit is closed due to activity, LAs Pailas Trail is the best alternative. Lots of volcanic activity in this trail.
See you again at Guachipelin soon.

I visited this place more than 10 years ago, I can truly say that what I found last week was just a natural paradise. The Hotel is extremely clean, the service and attention provided are excellent and the tours are amazing. The food is delicious and we ate a lot!!! I have no words to describe how happy I felt in this place. I highly recommend visitors to stay at this beautiful hacienda!

Room Tip: All rooms are good to me, but of course I prefer the ones on the corners!

Located inside a National Park, give you the opportunity to enjoy the beatiful scenarios: volcanos, hot springs, waterfalls. My complain is about the food. There is only one place to have it and it is not close to good. It is expensive nor for the quality or taste.

Thanks for sending a review Dentagro . We are happy to hear that you found the location convenient , and that you found plenty of attractions in the area.
About the food, most of the people love it and some hate it. There is no middle point here, just extremes. We are trying hard to inform people that there are options in the menu and that there options of places to eat close by.

First, the rooms:

The room we stayed in was cool (AC), had a small TV, and one of the only hot showers we took on our 1 month tour throughout Costa Rica and Nicaragua. It was clean. The only complaint is that WiFi wasn't very strong in our room but you could go outside for decent reception and rooms closer to the lobby probably had a better signal.

The amenities:
There is a pool (which we didn't use) that was very clean. Nice little bar with strong cheap drinks and a pretty decent restaurant. Breakfast is buffet style -- nothing fancy but decent omelette bar, juices, coffee etc.

The adventure tour:
Wow! $85 for the all day adventure tour is totally worth it. I had a lot more fun than I expected. It was my first time zip-lining but I felt totally safe and had a blast rappelling and zip-lining upside down. Rock climbing, rope swings, a horseback ride, swimming near a small waterfall, river tubing, and, to top it all off, a super relaxing mud bath and volcanic hot springs. You must do this!

Thanks Josh P for reviewing Guachipelin. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your time with us.
Yes the $85 Day of Adventure package is a good value package, actually is very popular with our guests. Since guests have the hot springs included, in the package Simbiosis Mud springs is included instead.
We are working on the internet, but since the rooms are distributed on a large property, we have technical difficulties.
We are happy to know that you liked the food and the drinks at the bar. Alberto is a very good bartender.
We hope to see you soon at Guachipelin.
