“Full day of adventure!”
Reviewed November 21, 2012

We went horseback riding, zip line, hot springs, mud bath...the highlight was definitely the zip line, I felt we were on the set of King Kong! Beautiful scenery! The service was terrific. The horse back riding was fine, we didn't get a chance to go very fast, but the experience was fun.

Had a great three days before heading to the beach. We enjoyed the cuisine and the service. Make sure you ask for Noe he was great to laugh and converse with.
The views from our suite were phenomenal. We hiked and rode horseback to the waterfalls, which our guide Oscar was informative and knowledgeable about the wildlife and the forest.
Natural sauna and mud baths are always available. We went during late green season so we enjoyed the solitude.
We will return in the spring.

Room Tip: The Junior Suite is the way to go, with great views and plenty of space.

We stayed at the HBMR back in March of 2012 with my family of 4 and another family of 5 ... all kids between 6 and 10 and loved it. After being in the surf in Playa Grande for a week we took our group up the the resort for a few nights before heading home and were glad we did.
The resort was extremely clean and the staff was very attentive. The hot springs, steam room and mud bath was a nice treat after being being beaten up by the waves for a week but there was also the other adventures they offered that made the vacation great. Ziplining and horseback riding tours took us through areas of the vast property of this huge estate.
Accommodations were well kept and very roomy. The only issue was hot water pressure but that would be the only issue I had during our stay. We stayed at the two villas at the top of the hill. A big walk but we were on vacation so who cares. It gave us privacy and great vantage points of the area. We had an ill little girl one night and the staff and particularily the GM took extra care to make sure she was comfortable. This set our family at ease and was much appreciated!

Room Tip: Get a Villa. We spent hours watching the hawks riding the thermals while we sipped on rum and cokes!

Sept was def the best month to go! We only stayed one night at this hotel and it was amazing! We did the Suana, Mud Bath and Hot Springs, and were the only people there! This might have been due to the recent earthquake or the fact that Rincon was active.
Our room was beautiful! Def spend the money and get the Junior Suite! It was HUGE, Private, and had an amazing view, especially from the hot tub! Very romantic!
We had dinner at the restaurant that night which we both felt was excellent! Not sure why people are complaning, we had no issues and excellent service! Visit Noah the bartender, he was a great laugh and made awesome Cosmos! Looking forward to staying at this hotel again next year!

Room Tip: Definately pay the extra money for the Junior Suite! Well worth it!!

We spent three days in Borinquen where we had great time, relax and rest.
The rooms are large and comfortable, wonderful attractive, good food.
I have one complaint about the service because nobody opened our minibar in the room despite our request and there was no service in the pool and in the hot springs.
Overall the experience was very good, to reccommend.

My girlfriend and I visited Borinquen on a trip this spring. We arrived at the hotel after spending 4 days in Tamarindo. We were immediately impressed by the resort and wished that we had spent the majority of our trip there instead of vice versa. The resort was immaculate! The rooms were luxurious and comfy. And the price was very reasonable. I felt as if I was at a Ritz Carlton/Four Seasons level resort at the price of a Marriot or Omni. Money well spent. We loved our time here. The service was exceptional!
The only (slight) downside was that it was a bit hard to find. Based on the directions we had, we turned off of the main road and traveled down a winding, rocky path. On a few occasions we thought about turning back because we weren't sure we were heading in the right direction. But once we made it....WOW! Loved it! We will be back.

We just came from 4 days at Borinquen and then 4 days at the Four Seasons. Mountains and beach! Borinquen was lovely, the staff was amazing, very thoughtful and attentive--the grounds are stunning, and the views were breathtaking. We went with our 8 year old children (twins) and all had a great time. We booked the Junior Suite which was perfect for a family of 4. We did the ziplining, horseback riding, and hiking on the resort. All were great tours, perfect for 8 year olds, and because everything is on the resort, there were no long drives involved. We then did the white water rafting, which was about 45 minutes away, but another great adventure (although not cheap!). We had Oscar as our private guide most of the time, he works at the resort full time and is very good at what he does. We were worried about it being rainy season, but it only rains sporadically (if at all in our case) in the afternoon, and the resort has hot springs to enjoy no matter what the weather. There is only one restaurant--the food is fine---, but Diego takes the time to get to know every guest and makes you feel special. This hotel definitely undersells itself and we highly recommend it for families with children and honeymooners. It is an upscale, yet casual resort in the mountains of Costa Rica.

Room Tip: Junior Suite was great!
