“Great food and great people!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 31, 2014 via mobile

We have been coming here for years and finally decided to do a review! Love the German food, local wines, Shepherds pie, and can never turn down the soup or any of their specials, they are always great! The owners are wonderful!! Did I say great German food!! ;) I could go on and on.... Like the cabin feel and great deck out back surrounded by the tall pines and music in the summer.... With your glass of wine or one of the many great beers on tap enjoying your German food ... Oh I think I may have already said that. Seriously they have much more than German... Be sure to check them out!!

“Fish & Chips!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2014

Went here for an impromptu lunch while touring Apple Hill...wasn't expecting much. Wow! At first the menu was intimidating with Hungarian varieties - but also American offerings too. We got the cheeseburger and also the fish & chips. Both good, but the Fish & Chips were incredible! Big portions of fish with lots of batter. You must try them! I now want to go back & try some of the intimidating dishes.

“Good beer, excellent bison burger”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 3, 2013

I find myself here maybe twice a year. I've always found it friendly. In the winter there's a wonderful wood stove.

The bison burger is excellent as are the fries. A nice beer selection.

Service can be slow, particularly during the apple season, when the area is very crowded with visitors. The owner admits this. I like the place enough that I rather enjoy hanging out waiting for them to chase down the bison...

“An Applebee's experience in Apple Hill?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2013

If you're looking for a casual sit-down family restaurant with very good food in a warm, country setting, look no further. The fish tacos and fish and chips are two of the best things on the menu, and my son swears by the buffalo burger though I've never tried it. Their iced tea is perfect for a hot-day refreshment. The menu veers toward German territory with Weiner Schnitzel, beef stroganoff and spaedle noodles, an homage to the owner's former St Pauli Girl origins. These dishes are hearty and well prepared, athough unless you want your meatloaf actually smothered in gravy, ask for it on the side. Salads are remarkably crisp and tasty with iceberg lettuce, shredded carrots and beets. The only thing that keep this rating from being higher is the ambience. If this were an Applebee's (which I do not eat at and whose food is nowhere near as good), I would be greeted as a regular customer even if it were my first time at that location, and the place would be spotless. At the Forester, though we have eaten there at least twenty times, the owner, Helen, treats us and our family as strangers. Also the atmosphere is a bit tired, with fraying wallpaper being fixed with scotch tape and the windows and lamps in need of a good cleaning and replacement of burnt-out bulbs. It might also be time to replace the clunky sports TVs in each corner of the main dining room with some flat screens, or leave them for the pub. An injection of some fresh energy and friendliness would make this restaurant a must-stop on any Apple Hill excursion.

“Prices a bit high, but place is convenient to Camino Hotel across the street”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 9, 2013

The food is fine, just not ai-yi-yi delicious. Liked the Friday night music on the back deck. If I weren't staying nearby, I wouldn't necessarily dine there again.
