“Paper Thin Walls - No Sleep”
Reviewed February 21, 2013

The food was good - part of the package. Stay away from the 5XX cabins - old, cold, bad shower, mostly the people next door speaking at regular volume could be heard verbatim.

A bad nite sleep cannot be compensated for!!

We frequently travel to Cambria and stayed at the Cambria Pines Lodge for the first time in mid-January of 2013, due to an amazing Travelzoo deal. We had two rooms, both of which were large view suites. The suites were quite comfortably spacious with a bedroom on one end, and a living/dining combo with a tasteful murphy bed on the other end. The bathrooms were VERY oddly designed - old school, with the sink outside in the bedroom, which was awkward and unfortunate. The heater was actually controlled by the fireplace, so if you wanted any heat, the fireplace had to be on. It was difficult to regulate the temperature and I found myself very warm in the middle of the night, even though the heater wasn't on.
Despite the awkward setup of the rooms, the odd heating situation and the fact that even though the decor was cute and homey, it's a bit dated now, the grounds were nice, as was the view from our room. I was prepared to consider staying in this establishment again, until I got in the shower on the first morning. A maid in the unit below mine must have turned on the water, and as a result, I lost all hot water for a moment and was shocked by an icy blast of freezing cold water in the middle of my shower! But what was even worse was that a few moments later, I was even more rudely shocked by a lasting blast of scalding hot water. And I don't mean "bonus warm" water, I mean dangerously scalding! I thought it was a fluke, until two other members of my party, who were in a different room than I was, reported having the same problem. On our way out that day, we flagged down a maintenance guy and informed him of the dangerous issue with the showers that we had all experienced. His response? "Yeah, they're old pipes so they do that sometimes." REALLY? The Cambria Pines Lodge would be wise to fix the old pipes before they result in a lawsuit. Given the unpredictability of the scalding water in the shower, and the staff's lack of concern about it, we've decided not to stay at the Lodge until the property undergoes a serious remodel (and re-piping, hopefully). I'm giving the Lodge an "average" rating instead of "poor" because aside from this and the dated decor, the grounds are lovely, the entertainment is fun, and it's one of only a few places in town that serves liquor, as opposed to wine and beer only. I would probably advise against having dinner at the lodge, as the food is lacking, but the atmosphere is very quaint and homey. With the right attention to maintenance, the Lodge could be a really great place to stay. Until that happens, I'll be back on Moonstone Beach.

Room Tip: Select an upstairs suite with a view. Walls and floorboards are thin, so upstairs with the bedroom...

Such a wonderful and relaxing experience! From the very first contact with Staff at the Front
Desk everything was very good. The Staff was very prompt, courteous and professional. There were many of us that arrived at same time and it was very fast check in. Room was perfect!
Fireplace suite with a large living area, another sitting area with fridge and microwave, then large
bedroom with two queen beds. Room was very clean, maintained very well! The grounds are very nice with good walking paths thru nicely maintained shrubs. We had purchased a 2 night Escape
Package that included Dinner. The Dinner was lovely! Great service, attentive yet they were not obnoxious. Food was prepared perfectly! Breakfast was also very good and included in package.
It was Truly a Lovely Escape!

After a long day in the car driving down the coastal highway from San Francisco we pulled into the Cambria Pines. We were just glad to get out of the car, but the Cambria Pines Lodge far exceeded our expectations. The staff at check in was cheerful and efficient. We had booked the dinner package on the Internet several weeks earlier. The package included a king room with fireplace, dinner for two with a bottle of wine from a local winery, and breakfast; all this for under $120 including tax. Our room was in the Moonstone building just across the street from the front desk. A clean, good size, comfortable room was waiting for us.
We had dinner reservations for 730p. I remember when I made the reservation I received a telephone call asking for our preferred dining time. The restaurant was several smaller dining rooms giving a homelike experience. We could chose from a variety of entrees and three choices from the wine list. You are sure to find something to your liking. Again the wait staff was equally helpful in making our evening. Before we left we stopped in the lounge for some live entertainment.
Breakfast the next day again was very much to our liking. There was a hot and cold buffet with many choices; all presented by an attentive staff. No disappoint here.
All in all the price of the package was attractive but the staff and service were the winning qualities of the Cambria Pines Lodge.
If I need to provide a criticism I would say, B.Y.O.P. bring your own pillow. Even though there were plenty of pillows to sit up in bed to read, there was not a good sleeping pillow.

Room Tip: We had a room on the second floor. I think this provides a quieter stay.

This is our 2nd stay at the Cambria Pines Lodge. A rustic but modern getaway in beautiful wine country and a stones throw from Moonstone Beach. The rooms are spacious clean and welcoming. Th ATF are friendly and the restaurants food is delicious with locally grown produce, ( some on the premises,) is worth the price. The grounds are amazing with plenty of walkways and trails through beautifully landscaped average and a steep but beautiful back trail down the hill to the Town of Cambria. Pet friendly. They have entertainment in the lounge 7 nights a week varying from karaoke, DJs, and live bands. This is a must stay.

This location really doesn't have great views, but is a large meandering complex. Our suite was surprisingly huge w/ an option for another bedroom (bed pull down wall). Our tv is modern, the suite tv is box. The walls are paper thin and NO AIR CONDITIONING. We had nice two fireplaces setup & the bed is ok, yet the sheet thred count (& lenins) are not up to my standard. Nice wet bar separate section. Overall theme, a bit dated & durable setup like a ski lodge. Not even any real glass drinking glasses.
