The Cambria pines hotel is a bit different from the rest. It is set in beautiful gardens, has a log cabin feel, with log fires in your room. The resteraunt resembles a country kitchen and the buffet breakfast is reasonably priced, although it can get a bit hectic at times

Having saved for this special holiday, we were travelling the west coast, having stopped in san francisco, which was lovely, we pulled up outside this hotel and on a first impression we thought oh dear, seeing a man outside with two young girls wrapped around him, drunk!! anyway trying to ignore this we went inside to this dreadful fussy smell, thinking the room will surly be ok, oh dear wrong!!! it was like going back in time to the 60 s, awful!!! the hot water wasnt working, the windows were rotting, and the curtains!!!! omg!!! the waldrobe had a hole cut out of the back for the tv, and all the furniture was made to look old, and all it done was look like cigerette stains!!!

We stayed here for one night in September 2012. On arrival, we liked the lovely frontage to the main part of he hotel, with it's welcome bench seating and the wonderful, colourful flowers around the doors and walls. Once in the reception area, there was a strange smell that I found a little off putting. I could not work out what the smell was or where it was coming from, but it could have been the resident cat (that I originally thought was stuffed) who lives in reception and barely moved the whole night. Once in our rooms I was glad to notice that the smell disappeared. The rooms were adequate and comfy and clean. We decided to go to the bar before going for something to eat in the restaurant. The bar had the same strange smell as reception, and after a while you got used to it. I was a little disconcerted when we ordered some drinks. 4 people had 4 drinks and it came to just over 16 dollars. Not a problem, until we ordered some more and three drinks came to just over 15 dollars. At first I thought it may have been happy hour for the four drinks, but this was not the case. The bar man seemed to get confused with the money side of things and short changed another person in the bar. We decided not to order more drinks in the bar. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant and could not fault the food or the service. The breakfast was also lovely and had no issues. We had a wonder around the grounds the next day and they were beautiful. Overall I would recommend this hotel for a one night stay.

It's great that Blondy1234 liked our grounds, rooms, dinner, and breakfast. Our staff also noticed the odd smell in the lobby and bar last month. We finally figured out that it was a new cleaning product--which we promptly replaced. We apologize for our new bartender's confusion regarding pricing and assure our guests that we always correct any staff error as soon as possible.

We are locals and use the coupons offered in our newspapers to participate in the Escape package. It is such a sweet deal and a great "stay-cation" for us (vacationing at home). The grounds are beautiful and have a quieting effect in a hectic world. The rooms are quaint and lovely. The food is delicious. The staff is friendly and helpful.

If you like rustic bordering on primitive then this is exactly what you would get Room dated and very tired. We were booked into a suite, which consisted of two beds, no wardrobe (was a pole behind the sink ) two chairs a table and mirror. One of smallest bathrooms have seen for a number of years. We agreed with one of the other reviews, the property was in a time warp and was a set from Dirty Dancing. pricing based on the proximity to Hearst Castle, sure it may fit a number of people's requirements, but not what we expected at all. Thankfully we were only there for a night.

Room Tip: Sorry cant.

We stayed at this hotel during our 16 day tour. Cambria is located midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Not the usual big brash hotel you come to expect. This consisted of a number of 2 floor wooden blocks. The bedrooms are well presented, with unrestricted views over the countryside. Complete with tea making facilities and free wi-fi. No bedroom safe. We despatched a number of mozzies before retiring to bed. (Caution - the bedroom walls are not sound proofed!) you pass through a number of lovely themed garden (25 acres) to reach reception and restaurant. Breakfast buffet was basic, however the dinner was the best meal experienced on the tour, although slightly expensive, well worth it. A lovely place to stay, for me not long enough!.

Cambria was the third stop of our Central Coast road trip the last week of September.

This is a sprawling property, with rooms in an array of configurations and densities. Our room evoked a certain dated, faded quality that reminded Caron of the setting for much of the film "Dirty Dancing." Kind of like stepping back in time. The framed prints on the walls really were faded, and the carpeting was well beyond needing replacement.

The wall heater was positively ancient, but it kept the place warm. There was also a fireplace, complete with Duraflame log. The bed gave us the worst sleep of this trip. Caron thought perhaps the mattress was topped with some sort of memory foam, and it seemed to swallow us up. Rather disconcerting.

Perhaps the greatest disappointment, however, was encountered at the Lodge's restaurant. I'll review that separately.

In the plus column, the grounds were nicely maintained.

As always, we appreciate honest feedback from our valued guests. Grumpy_Dutch notes issues which we are addressing with room-by-room improvements, including replacement of some framed wall prints. We are also implementing a more structured program of preventive maintenance, carpet cleaning, etc., which can be difficult to manage when our property is so often close to capacity. Finally, we regret that this guest was disappointed in our well-reviewed restaurant and hope they will give us another opportunity to fulfill their expectations.
