“Pleasant, but worth the $$$”

Nice hotel, small, clean. Stayed 2 nights after 3 nights camping on Big Sur. The room is super clean, nice beds (we had 2 queens), across the street from boardwalk and great sunsets. Breakfasts are ok for a "continental" breakfast.

We also stayed at the San Simeon Pines Seaside Resort up the road about 1/2 mile during the same trip, which also has a great location, and costs 40% or less then this hotel. Yet the rooms are nice but not as well appointed, and the breakfast is even more sparsely "continental".

After a careful analysis the question is would you pay ~$150 more for nicer room decorations and little more breakfast???

I really thought this motel was adorable. I have stayed at beautiful huge hotels and those are nice but this place was cute cozy and quaint. I liked the location of this one the 2 story motels were on the other end of the street and this made it more quaint.
Although the water pressure is low in the toilets and shower it didnt bother my trip.
The beds and room was clean! The pool was warm and clean!
I thought we made the right choice by staying at the Fireside inn although it is expensive I would have wanted to stay another night. I really liked it

We stayed on Friday and Saturday night. I booked here because I couldn't find anything in Paso Robles or San Luis Obispo with two beds that didn't cost a fortune. This place was over our budget, but I also wanted to be near Hearst Castle. Very friendly at check-in. Clean room, no smells. Beds were very comfortable. Good Wi-fi. Fireplace was pretty useless for us, but easy to use (flick a switch). Every room has a little patio, and there is a larger common patio at the front of the property where one can view the beach and the sunset. There's a pool and spa, my kids used it once. We spent most of our time exploring the beach which is right across the road, with walkways and paths to the tidepools. There are seals and sea lions on the rocks, and ground squirrels and rabbits on the dunes. It's really beautiful and uplifting. Free breakfast was pretty good but nothing outstanding. Better than spending $40 in town! Cambria itself is really small and touristy on the higher end. From here you are 15 minutes to Hearst Castle Visitor's Center, and less than 30 minutes to Paso Robles wineries.

Toilet seat meant for a five year old. Tiny, round and inadequate. Water merely drips out of faucet. Room has all the charm of a 1950's roadside motel. View from ocean front room wonderful.

Like many others I did our research for a trip up Highway 1, in our case south to north, and settled on the BW Fireside Inn as a combination between location, value for money and good reviews. We were not disappointed and the check in staff were excellent, the rooms were good sized and everything worked. The beds were comfortable although we did not make full use of them as this was our second night out from the UK on a RTW trip and the body clock was still struggling. As many have mentioned the boardwalk across the road is just great and the scenery and views along the beach were excellent. We ate dinner at the Moonstone Beach Inn which is a short walk away and the food was good although a bit on the pricey side. Breakfast was fine without being spectacular at the hotel. The staff were friendly, professional and helpful throughout. We booked fairly well in advance and paid a senior's rate of $99 which I consider to be very good value. Would definitely stay if we pass this way again.

I feel I'm just repeating what everyone else has said. We had a really good experience at this hotel. The location is great! Just walk across the street, and you are walking on the boarwalk. You can either take a long walk, or go right down to the beach. We spent all of our time playing in the tidepools, collecting sea shells and watching the baby seals swim with their moms for hours! I was here with my college age daughter to celebrate my birthday. I have nothing bad to say, we thoroughly enjoyed this hotel and Cambria. We'll definitely come back next year to watch the seals. We also did the Hearst Castle tour (tour #2), and really enjoyed that. We ate both nights at Moonstone Beach Bar and Grill, just a short walk from the hotel, which was very good. I'd highly recommend staying here.

We spent four glorious days at the Fireside in Cambria (including a stormy, raw, windy, cold Tuesday - with the fireplace blazing all afternoon while we read and napped), and can only say we've already decided on a return trip. The lobby staff is very warm and accommodating, the rooms are handsomely and tastefully appointed, the patio overlooking the boardwalk and the ocean is terrific, the housekeeping staff is first-rate -- I could go on and on. Unless you are the Princess from "The Princess and the Pea," you cannot fail to have a wonderful visit.
