Fireside Inn on Moonstone Beach
Ranked #10 of 12 Hotels in Cambria
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed February 21, 2013

I stayed here back in 2010 and enjoyed it enough to return again, and I'm so glad I did.
This hotel has gotten better over time. And you still get cookies at check in!

The outside of the hotel was very neat and clean with nice landscaping.
It appears as though they've done some remodeling since my last stay as everything was either very clean or recently painted. The furniture in the rooms appeared new. And the bed was a dream.

They are using a very nice bath product that smells wonderful, not the normal run of the mill Best Western shampoo/conditioner.

My room had a fireplace in it, mostly for looks I think as you just turn it on with a flip of a switch, but still beautiful to sit and watch.
The room was very large with king bed plus enough space for the sofa and table if you wanted to eat or read at. The carpeting was clean. There is a desk area also for working at. The lighting in the room was great. For a hotel being out in no where they do get a lot of television channels.

I think the best part of this hotel is the walkway right across the street, it takes you on a nice stroll along the coast where you can see lots of harbor seals on the rocks and even has a nice set of stairs that lead right down to the water where there are various tide pools on Moonstone Beach. They say you're supposed to be able to find Moonstones, but I never have, probably because I don't know what I'm looking for.

It is located not far from Hearst Castle (a nice place to visit) and the Piedras Blancas elephant seal rookery. The elephant seals are a must see if you're in the area. It's free and wonderful to watch these amazing creatures. There are even docents available to answer questions.

Anyhow, back to the hotel. There is a lovely heated pool and spa and the rooms have robes you can use while walking to and fro. There is a nice outdoor patio area that you can take your morning up of coffee or nightly glass of ??? to and watch the sunrise or sunset.

Breakfast was good, plentiful, and hot. Scrambled eggs, sausage, various fruits, juices, cereals, yogurts, breads, and pastries. All items were replaced frequently so nothing ran out. There are two waffle machines. I don't care for the recycled looking paper plates they use and would rather see real plates and utensils, but oh well.

If you're looking for a good stop over place while traveling along the coast or wanting to stay a couple of days where its peaceful and quiet to recharge your batteries this is a nice place.

On a girl's trip down the coast we spent two nights here. Our requirements were 2 beds, ocean view. There are three rows of one story buildings which run perpendicular to the coast, all well maintained and cute. The desk clerk did not do justice describing our accommodations - "patio room looking out on parking lot with a bit of view to the side". When we arrived to our assigned room we were pleased to find a well appointed room with a fireplace, 2 comfy Queen beds with fluffy comforters, in-room fridge, all as clean as a whistle. A sliding glass door opened to a shared patio between two rooms with two chairs and a small table for each. We were 3 rooms down from front, across from the office. The sparkling ocean view to the right and across the street was not expansive, but delightful. Moonstone Beach trail is directly across the street, and its a quick walk with a morning cup of coffee out the path to a viewing platform with a panoramic view - fantastic! On the west end of each building facing the beach there are flagstone patios with several table groupings and a fantastic view. Great place to take a bottle of wine and chit-chat with other guests while watching the sun set. Breakfast included, served in a sweet little dining room - eggs, sausage, bagels, toast, muffins, fruit, yogurt, OJ, coffee, tea, etc. A good perk considering a full breakfast anywhere in town will add $25-$30 to your daily food budget. Value is just great for all you get here. Major props to the office folk who are just as nice and helpful as they could be. The only thing I would add? Fire pits on the front communal patios or at least space heaters. This is central coast and baby it's COOOLD out there, lol! Liked it so much we are taking the men folk back for our September anniversaries. We nabbed two of the ocean front rooms with sitting areas right across from the blue Pacific. The views will be killer and we can't wait :)

Room Tip: Grab a patio room! Worth it.

Perfect location for a romantic getaway, right across the street from Moonstone beach. Friendly staff, very comfortable bed, clean room. Our room had a fireplace, but it was next to the bed instead of in front of the bed, so you could't really see the fire from the bed. Room was a little on the pricey side in my opinion, but certainly within reason given the excellent location and overall quality of the property. Good breakfast selections. Would like to have checked in early but our room was not ready, but since the day before was Valentine's day that is understandable. Could not hear the surf from our room as you might from a property that is actually "on" the beach. Overall very nice and I would return.

Wonderful experience! EVERYONE from check-in to check-out was great. Perfectly clean, spacious room. Nice amenities. The hot tub was SPOTLESS! Breakfast was a really nice add-on, too. Eggs, sausage, make-your-own waffles, fruit, yogurt, pastries, juices, coffee... Well prepared by a very cheerful person! Every request was fulfilled immediately with a smile! The staff here really makes you feel like they are glad to see you. Special thanks to Ranay for all her help. Absolutely will stay here again. Be sure to save one night for dinner down the street at the Moonstone Beach Bar and Grill. It's walking distance from the hotel and the view is amazing! Can't wait to visit and stay here again!

When checking this out on line, it was presented nicely. Not overstated in any way. We were very pleasantly surprised by the spacious room and gorgeous location. The single story layout was such a nice change, no one stomping above. Breakfast was delicious and had so many choices.

Room Tip: From what I could tell, there were no bad room locations. I do try to stay as far away from the pool...

I've stayed here many times and last reviewed it in 2010. Just got back from another wonderful stay. Since my last visit, the hotel has given the rooms a fresh update, with white linens and great pillows. The breakfast has been expanded to include fresh eggs and sausage, while still offering fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries, and cereal and the opportunity to make waffles (and talk to fellow guests in the sunny breakfast room). As always, the staff is welcoming and very helpful; the location on Moonstone Beach is beautiful, quiet, and peaceful; the room fireplaces cure the winter chill and make it cozy; and the entire experience is A-plus from every angle.

Room Tip: If you can splurge, go for the ocean view rooms at the front of each building; otherwise, I ask for...

I wasn't expecting much from this hotel, but I came away very impressed. It is an older structure, made up of two separate one-story buildings just across the road from the water. Few comments:

- Very cordial, friendly employees. Gave me a warm welcome and made me feel right at home.
- While the hotel appears to have been around a while, the rooms did not feel tired or dated.
- The wifi was incredibly fast (>20 mbps!). This is very rare for a hotel.
- Solid breakfast offerings - waffle machine, sausage, scrambled eggs, etc.

Cambria is a great little town. Wonderful place to relax on the drive between L.A. and San Francisco.
