Fireside Inn on Moonstone Beach

One night stopover to visit Hearst Castle.
Check in was friendly & quick. Information & maps of the local area were provided.

Location is wonderful. Directly across the road from Moonstone beach.

Our room was at the back of the hotel, hallway leading to the room was a little dark & dingy.

The room was very clean, large & well presented. Seating area had a couch with a small table in front. Bathroom was clean with plenty of towels.
The bed was the most comfortable of any hotel i have ever been in. In the 4 weeks we travelled California it was the best nights sleep we had. Very quiet.

The hotel includes breakfast in its rates but we did not partake.
They also have a small pool & spa.

Compared to other hotels this was probably on the higher side but what price do you put on a good nights sleep?

I would stay at this motel again mainly because of its location. it is located right at moonstone beach and in Cambira which is a very nice town. There is a boardwalk and steps down to the beach and there is often elephant seals on the rocks that you can watch from the top of the cliff right in front of the hotel.
The room itself was fairly basic and a little dated but clean and the people at the front desk where very nice. The one thing that was a big turn off to me is that the headboard to the bed was a cloth headboard. I don't really consider cloth headboards them very sanitary for a motel.
The fireplace was nice in the room but it didn't really throw much heat.

My wife and I decided to celebrate our 40th anniversary with a visit to Cambria, and planned to stay at the Best Western Plus Fireside Inn based on positive experiences we've had with other BW+ properties on other trips. We were not disappointed.

Justin, the Assistant General Manager, was kind enough to upgrade our room for a nominal fee to an oceanfront location with a fireplace, directly across the road from the seaside walkway. The room was more than comfortable, and the fact that it rained during our stay made it seem all the more cozy as we could watch the sea while sitting in front of the fire.

The free breakfast was to usual BW+ standards, which is to say nothing elaborate but more than adequate, while the wi-fi worked well enough for our purposes. Fresh coffee and tea were available at all times in the office. The property is within walking distance to several excellent restaurants.

We will definitely be repeat customers. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Be sure to request an ocean-facing room with fireplace!

Just across the road from the beach, the scenery is terrific. The room was good, plenty of space and very comfortable. The Internet connection was not very good but that was not a real problem in the room. Breakfast was crowded, not helped by non diners using the Internet and taking up much needed space.

Right of Hwy 1, this hotel was a welcome site! We were tired and just wanted to find some nice place to spend the night, but at 10 PM, pickings are slim. Many neighboring properties looked nice but had no vacancy. We got one of two rooms left in the place - so we were told - and were grateful EXCEPT for the price. We were told the room was regularly $279 but was offered a discounted walk-in rate. Oceanview would be more. We got the room at the BACK of the hotel. Nice and quiet, the room felt very homey with king sized bed and enough room for a small sofa and coffee table. Very clean, too! Continental breakfast was included; it did the trick despite the custard-like institutional eggs. Other than the room, the BEST feature of this property is that the Pacific is right across the street and we happily took in that gorgeous view after breakfast.

Lesson learned: Plan/reserve ahead and maybe get a better rate at this or nearby properties.

I had a fabulous "working" vacation while writing a book and needed to get away from the external pressures of the east coast. Hanging out in a great room with a perfect view of the California Coast in Cambria, CA was EXACTLY what I needed. The breakfast in the AM was nice and the room itself - stocked with a mini-fridge was stellar for wanting to be buttoned up in the room. The room was surprisingly quiet, where I could never hear a sound from the surrounding rooms. I especially LOVED the outside terrace area of the room. I spent many days here, listening to the ocean and the birds (especially the hawks and humming birds). The staff at the resort were top notch. I was especially thrilled to meet Justin (Front Desk/Assistant Manager) and Brianna (GM). They really made me feel welcome and provided me with a lot of knowledge about the area. I will definitely be back!

The room was great but the big attaction was the location. The inn is located right across from Moonstone Beach, Cambria, California. We were able to walk the boardwalk, feed the squires, watch the sunsets and listen and see the waves roll into the shore. This was our third year there and we are sure to go again. The staff is very helpful and we felt we were home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
