The Missus and I typically stay at Castle Inn's sister lodging Sand Pebbles which is our favorite Moonstone Beach/Cambria location. But, since it was a late booking, we made arrangements to stay at Castle Inn for the first time. Plus, the price was right. Our room on the second floor faced the seaside and provided a charming view while we had our complimentary continental breakfast. We made use of their (seemingly trademark) red Adirondack chairs to watch the sky, the pelicans and the clouds roll by each day. Of course, the location is perfect for a quick drive or hike into town or over to Fiscalini Ranch for a longer walk. One surprise, however, was Castle Inn's proximity to Moonstone's tidal pools. Mere yards from our door, we walked across the street and a few feet down the boardwalk to the pools to see the anemone, the crabs and the sea lions on the rocks. Yes, we also saw a few whales in the distance. Our room was clean and quite seashore traditional in decor. A bit spare; but then vacations in a place like Cambria are about decluttering the mind. The staff was friendly and helpful, as we have come to expect from this collection of hotels & inns. We actually visit Cambria for several days at a time, rather than overnighting, so we like the consistency of value and service that they provide. While we prefer Sand Pebbles, we recommend Castle Inn and would return there.

Room Tip: Second floor, ocean views. It is the Pacific after all.

Thank you for your review of Castle Inn, and that clever title! We are pleased you have such a great experience with our company and our hotels and we appreciate you sharing that experience here. It is wonderful to be able to offer a more affordable option and yes, the tide pools are awesome! The ability to get so up close to these delightful ocean communities is indeed a precious thing. Cambria has many surprises to discover.

We used this hotel as a stopping off point as we made out way down the coast. It was right on the stunning beach ( lovely boardwalk as well) and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was good.

Thank you for your excellent review of Castle Inn. The newest member of the Cambria Inns Collection, this is a throwback to the roadside motels of California's past. Our vintage property has a pool (rare in Cambria) and is close to the boardwalk. We are happy you had such a great time with us and we appreciate you sharing that experience here. Many thanks!

This was a nice place with an awesome view! The staff were all friendly and helpful. Breakfast was basic- nothing special and pretty crowded the morning we were there. I don't think there was AC (we didn't need it), and the heat was a strange wall unit that seemed a little dangerous with our toddler. Although it was okay, all the furniture was super low. At toddler height, so we had to keep everything on one table to keep her little hands off. There was a small mini fridge and the basics. There were many hotels on this strip, and I think all would be okay, but this one was rare in that most rooms would have an ocean view. You are looking over a parking lot at it, but it's lovely.

Thank you for your review of Castle Inn. We are pleased to provide affordable lodging on Moonstone Beach Drive and we always love hearing that our staff was wonderful. We appreciate you sharing your experience and hope you had a chance to relax a little with an active toddler. Maybe next visit she'll be old enough to play in the pool!

There is a cheaper place, but the rooms here are brighter and larger. The staff is very nice. Young Ty is one of the most charming sesk clerks we have ever met. Very helpful. We were forced by car issues to stay longer than planned, and everyone was accomadating. The place is an old motel, tarted up a bit and shabby around the corners, but for the price, it can't be beat

The room was clean, wide and equipped with everything we need for one night... Hair dryer, towels, mini refrigerator, cups. The vista is amazing and the hotel is perfect for a break when traveling from SF to LA by Highway 1!!! They serve a breakfast in a separate room with bagels, milk, cereals, some fruits and coffee.
Great, I recommend.

Thank you for your great review of Castle Inn. As our more affordable option, we enjoy offering a place to be on Moonstone Beach that is still budget-friendly. Cambria is a perfect midway point between San Francisco and Los Angeles and it feels like a vintage California beach town. The proximity to Hearst Castle makes it a perfect stopping point to see another side of this beautiful state.
