We dinned at Madeline’s during a one night stay in Cambria. Chose Madeline’s based on positive reviews on TA. We were staying at the El Colibri which was a pleasant 10 minute walk away. We were in CA as part of a 3 week driving tour and in that time ate at some high end restaurants down to making our own sandwiches and everything in-between and Madeline’s was right up there with the best.
As we tend to do while on holiday we went for the chefs tasting menu which consisted of 6 courses and a bonus course from the chef which consisted of in-house smoked and cured bacon chop. You can pretty much chose your courses but we decided to tell our waiter to let the chef showcase his food as we are not picky eaters and to decide for us, we find that this allows us to try things that we may not normally have tried otherwise. Each course was excellent with a great balance of seafood and red meat. The atmosphere of the restaurant is intimate; the waiter was friendly without being over-intrusive and was knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. I decided to try a few bottles of the local ale (Firestone) there were 2 varieties and both were excellent, the waiter informed me that the brewery was close by and a tour was available but unfortunately we didn’t have the time. For around $65 a head for food I found for the quality to be excellent value. If you want to treat yourself whilst in Cambria look no further than Madeline’s.
