The hosts were very friendly, we had a lovely room overlooking the sea, but there was a terrible unseasonal storm so we saw nothing and all the power was lost. Shame that our trip to Cambria and Big Sur was spoiled but we did see the seals in the morning. Would recommend this hotel as one of the nicest on Moonstone Beach.

We're glad to hear you appreciated our hospitality and your recommendation of our property as being one of the nicest in the area. On rare occassions we will get a rain storm and lose power, fortunately this usually only occurs once every few years. Thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to write your review.

Sincerely,
Moonstone Landing

nice clean room, good internet, right across street from picturesque beach, five minute drive to downtown cambria, friendly staff, above average continental breakfast with good coffee..... there is something casual, almost homey about it, and it all adds up to a very pleasant stay. great place

We stayed here for one night on our trip on the Big Sur. We arrived around 8 in the evening and were greet by a friendly and helpful girl at reception. Our room had a partial sea view,( $115 for the room) which was a good size and contrary to what the last reviewer thought we liked the décor especially the big fire. Our bed was comfortable and clean. There is a restaurant next door and although we didn't eat there it seemed quite popular. The hotel is right on the water front and the next morning after a nice breakfast we were blessed with beautiful sunshine as we strolled along the wooden path way and watched the surfers perform on the blue water and snow white foam on the breaking waves. It was a little piece of heaven for a few hours.

I stayed here for the first time after many trips to Pelican Cove Inn on Moonstone Beach. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience. The room I enjoyed had a gorgeous view of the coastline, and the window size along with the balcony space were fantastic for really enjoying that beauty. The bathrooms appear to have been recently remodeled, as they are all travertine, and were very pretty. The shower is not enclosed so that was a little awkward, as water tends to splash out a bit. But not a big deal. Where Moonstone Landing falls short is in the room decor and bed comfort. The bed was hard and uncomfortable, which made for stiff muscles each morning. Also, the paint colors on the walls and the fabric on the furniture are atrocious. I honestly considered asking them if I could paint the room myself before staying there again, at my expense! This property could be absolutely exceptional if they would simply paint the walls and recover the chairs with something reasonable and not straight out of 1994. They also do not have their reservation system computerized (no joke) and they literally use pen and paper books for their reservations. They need to change that immediately, obviously. Overall, I give Moonstone Landing a good review and plan to stay there again - if I can stomach the hideous colors in the room!

Room Tip: Depending on your budget, rooms in front with ocean views are fantastic, both upstairs and downstairs. FYI - there did not appear to be an elevator.

We built and designed our family owned hotel in 2002 (11 years ago). The bathrooms have always had travertine in them and were not remodeled as you indicated. We purchased all new mattresses approximately 18 months ago, we're sorry to hear the mattress was too firm for your preference. We're glad to hear that you really enjoyed your oceanfront room and the beauty of our coastline. We value and appreciate all input from our guests and we appreciate your review. Thank you for choosing Moonstone Landing.

Sincerely,
Moonstone Landing

This was my husband's and my first time staying at a motel, so I was a little hesitant at first, but since Moonstone Landing is a top favorite among locals on the Tripadvisor forum, I knew we had to give it a shot. We are certainly glad we did! At a very affordable rate, we had a huge room (first floor, no ocean view) with a (you guessed it) huge bathroom! Everything was clean and spotless, and even though we were on the first floor, we did not hear any noise outside.

Although we only stayed for one night, my husband and I enjoyed the Continental breakfast (especially the fresh tangerines) and afternoon snacks (a rather extensive spread of crackers, veggies, cheese and dips). We loved the proximity of Moonstone Landing to the beach, where we enjoyed a great morning and evening stroll together. Tip: Bring a thick sweater or jacket on your trip, because you will need it on this beach! Although gorgeous, it is cold and windy!!

All in all, Moonstone Landing - and Cambria in general - was a very pleasant surprise for us. We are certainly glad we spent some time at this gem!
