“So good, we had dinner here two nights in a row!”
Reviewed July 25, 2005

On the first night of our Cambria stay, we walked to the Moonstone Beach Bar & Grill and ate outside, facing the ocean and watching the gulls. The clam chowder in the sourdough bowl is terrific. We had other ideas in mind for the next evening, but ended up back at the Moonstone Beach B&G because we'd been so happy the night before. Ate inside, at a window table. Ordered "soup and salad"; the soup once again being clam chowder in the sourdough bowl. Just as good as the night before. I ordered the walnut/gorgonzola salad and it was top-notch. Hubby ordered what was described as "a traditional Caesar salad". And it was actually the TRADITIONAL Caesar -- meaning it had anchovies and he could taste the raw egg in the dressing. It's very hard to find a TRADITIONAL Caesar salad. Wish we'd gone there for dinner #3 instead of the Mexican joint in town. Oh well; next time.

“Pricey, but worth it.”
Reviewed July 10, 2005

Frankly, we only went to this place because it was walking distance from the hotel where we stayed. It looked like a touristy kind of place, but we were very pleasantly surprised. Although it was very crowded and everyone walking seemed to be going there, we were seated within five minutes (after being told it would be 30 minutes). Could be that not specifying inside or outside seating helped at bit in that regard.

We were seated on the large outdoor, heated patio overlooking the ocean and sunset. The setting couldn't be much better. Our server was helpful and friendly, as were all of the others we witnessed. We had the "petit" filet and BBQ shrimp dinner ($35 per person) and expected a small filet. What we got was a HUGE filet as big as a hand and 1" thick. It was incredible. The shrimp were very good also, but not terribly imaginative. Everything that came with it was quite good also. It isn't gourmet, but it is hearty and the portions are generous. Skip the ice cream with berries sauteed in Grand Marnier though.

“Great Service - Reasonable food - No Bookings”
Reviewed June 29, 2005

Staying at one of the Inns on Moonstone Beach we decided to try this nearby restaurant. We tried to book but were told they didn't take bookings. Not a problem during the week - but may be at weekends.

Service throughout was polite and attentive. My wife cannot have dairy products and they were were very happy to adapt the dishes accordingly.

The food was good with generous portions.

The prices seemed a little high given the location and the food being good but not exceptional.

Recommended if you are staying in the area.

“Great sunday brunch”
Reviewed June 13, 2005

We stay on Moonstone Beach several times a year. This is our most favorite for Sunday Brunch. We sit on the patio and watch the ocean and drink champagne. They usually just leave us a whole bottle. It is so relaxing and the food is great, especially the eggs benedict. Dinner is also very good here. This is a must when in Cambria, and Cambria is a must for couples in love.

“Best place to have a glass of wine and watch the sun set on the ocean”
Reviewed April 18, 2005

We return to Moonstone Beach Bar & Grill at least once every time we stay on Moonstone Beach. You can walk to the Grill from just about every B&B on Moonstone Beach, so it is terribly convenient. Plus, there is no other place around that is as relaxed and casual, with good food and offering a large outdoor patio seating area from which to watch the sun set over the Pacific. Even on chilly evenings, the patio is the place to be, as the establishment has on on many large, soft blankets for diners to cozy up under. The wine list is decent, featuring mostly area wines. The food is above-average, perhaps not too imaginable and fancy, but satisfying. You'll spend a minimum of $35 for two, without wine. But, trust me, have a glass of wine and watch the sun set - you can't put a price on that!
