“Very pleasant, casual lunch next to the sea”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 15, 2013

We were driving north on the CA coast and wanted to stop for lunch. We drove through Cambria rather late for lunch and chose this restaurant simply because it was open. We lucked out. We had a lovely, casual lunch with a nice glass of wine overlooking the Pacific. Too many restaurants with over the top views rely too much on the view and too little on their food. That's not the case here. I wouldn't say this should be a Michelin starred restaurant but it certainly had good, straightforward food in a perfectly beautiful setting. We'd certainly stop here again, probably even go out of our way if we were in the neighborhood,

“A Grill with a View”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2013

If you're passing through Cambria, California you've got to take the time to cruise the Moonstone Beach area just out of the town to the North. Just a 2-3 block strip with some great motels and a couple of excellent restaurants. The Moonstone Beach Bar and Grill is a fantastic place to stop for lunch and a sweeping view of the ocean right across the road. Their patio dining area is just hard to beat. The lunches are delicious, abundant and served up by some really friendly folks. With a little luck you might even catch sight of whales drifting by. After a filling lunch just step across the road and stroll the boardwalk that stretches the length of Moonstone Drive with plenty of viewing stations for an even closer look at the great ocean. Be prepared for some crowds on a warm day at the beach. If you want to stick around 'til dusk the sunsets are terrific! .

Sitting outside at this restaurant doesn't get better. Unobstructed view of the beautiful Pacific Ocean. Heaven. Had the clam chowder YUM, the salmon sandwich - still dreaming of it. Delicious food. KEEPER! Best surprise? they give you blankets to keep warm and cuddle as you watch the beautiful sunset....GO NOW!

“Location, location, location!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2013

As others have said, in real estate it' s all about location. The only way this restaurant could be any closer to the ocean is if it were built on a pier. Great ocean views from most tables, but some obstructed by trees. Fair pricing for what you receive, and good cocktails.

Our only issue was arriving at a near empty restaurant and given a poorer view table by the host seating us. When I asked for a different table he said no, he wanted us to sit there because he wanted the server in that section to have another customer. A few sentences later . . . he understood that was not going to work for us and we were seated where we wanted.

“don't settle”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 13, 2013

frozen calamari, frozen vegetables. What is up! The sauces that we tried were horrible. Why ruin mash potatoes with a thick unappetizing sauce. Also the pistachio sauce made us all sick to our stomachs. The sauce on the pork was not good. I think the restaurant needs Robert Irvine.

We are sorry you did not like our food and did not give us a chance to correct your situation when you were dining with us. Our policy at Moonstone Beach Bar & Grill is that if we did not meet your expectations, you should not have to pay. My manager and I try to talk with every table but sometimes people can slip by us. We have many dishes without sauces, and hope that you will give us another try.
