“Love CSI!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2013

Cambria is the favorite get away locale for a group of friends and we always stay at Cambria Shores Inn. Yes, we all have dogs. The place is immaculately maintained; the grounds featuring succulents is gorgeous...the sound of the crashing waves while you sit on the Adirondack chairs overlooking Moonstone and its boardwalk is so relaxing yet invigorating at the same time. It really does restore and refresh one's spirit as they advertise.
Breakfast appears at your door in the morning...you can take your basket outdoors and eat on a picnic table...other treats such as freshly baked cookies, crudite/cheese plate and yummy brownies make welcome appearance throughout the day/evening. The hosts could not be more charming. Tim (perfect as the "face" of CSI) looks like a retired sailor (he is not)...he, Scot and the rest of the hosts could not be more warm, friendly, and accommodating.
This is not a huge, fancy hotel...this is Cambria. For an utterly relaxing, feel good, spiritual retreat, be good to yourself and spend a couple of days at Cambria Shores (and bring your pooch!)

From the booking to the checkin, to the decor, to the location, to the front desk service, to the breakfast basket delivered, the Cambria Shores Inn was a delight. I had one of their more modest, less expensive rooms and it was great. Rooms are well designed with great touches. The walk to the boardwalk path along the beach is less than a minute away. The Adirondack chairs on the lawn invite leisurely ocean watching...all this for a more than reasonable rate. I can't wait to return.

Room Tip: Any room is good. Some are advertised as having ocean view but from any Ron you step outside and yo...

5 Star for dogs or people traveling with dogs.
3 Star for people traveling without dogs!

This place caters to dogs! If you have a dog traveling with you then this is your place.
Look no further. This is it!!
It's all about the dogs here. They even have a welcome pouch pack for your dog.

We recently stayed here one night on our trip up the coast (without a dog).
The staff is great. Very friendly and helpful.
The place wasn't very crowded on the night we stayed so we got upgraded to their room with the best view (Room 25). That was cool.

Our room was spacious and had a nice TV, DVD, fireplace small fridge and microwave in the bathroom area and also a separate door leading out to the patio out front.
The patio is not private at all but does have the best view of the ocean which is across the street.

Honestly there are many inns along Moonstone Beach that have much better views that are not blocked by the parking lot and are closer to the beach.
But this place is more about people traveling with their dogs.
Did I mention this place is all about the dogs?!

In the evening they served fresh made brownies in the office as well as cheese & crackers and fruit. It was a nice touch to grab some snacks and sit outside and enjoy the view.

In the morning they deliver a basket of simple breakfast items to your door. Ours included OJ, banana, apple, 1 yogurt and 2 packaged pastries. It was nothing elaborate or homemade but something to get your morning started!

Our room was a nice size with a separate tub and shower. It looked like the room had been recently renovated.

The things I did not like as much is the carpet in the room. This just grossed me out knowing how many different dogs had been in the room. Why carpet? I would think a place that caters to dogs would have hardwood or tile flooring.

Our bathroom and the patio area outside smelled like wet dog.
It was cold and damp during our visit so I'm sure it was coming from the grass area outside which is used for dogs doing their business. At least I was hoping it was coming from outside and not the carpet or bedding inside the room!

Also right in front of Room 25 patio is the 'smoking area' for the inn. Personally I think it is a bad decision to have the smoking area right in front of the best room on the property. Unfortunately we had to look at the two ash trays that are sitting outside the patio area. This takes away from the beauty of the view and surroundings!

They had a special going during our visit if you paid by cash or check the room was $50 off. So check for specials!

Location is great..... right on Moonstone Beach.
You really cant go wrong with most of the inns along this stretch of the road.
I highly recommend this place if your best furry friend is traveling with you. If you are not a dog person or want a little less "dog"....... then keep looking. There are lots of choices here!

Room Tip: Room 25 has the best view of the ocean and not as much of the parking lot.

We have been going to this property for over 15 years, usually 3-4 times a year. Several owners later, the inn has been updated both inside and outside. The large lawn area looks directly towards Moonstone Beach and we spend most afternoons out there with local wines. The continental breakfast is very good, not too filling so you can have lunch/dinner at the local places, which are very good. The staff at Cambria Shors, especially Tim have always been very helpful and friendly. Oops, I almost forgot, Dogs are very welcome here, another reason we've enjoyed this fabulous place! Highly recommended. Bruce and Gee.

Room Tip: We usually get an ocean view with King bed, but you'll be happy with any room and probably spend...

I agree with all the other reviews here (service was great, location was perfect), but there's a big part of me that wants to say "wow, they are making a lot of money passing off this motel as a fancy hotel" and then with the extra "dog fee" of $30/nt, the stay was $259/nt (before tax) to essentially stay in a gussied up motel that they updated and gave you a dog basket, free wine and cheap breakfast. There were nice touches like wine and cheese and the drop off breakfast, but for all the nice reviews, I was expecting more. I wish I could give 4 stars (or 3 1/2) but I had a hard time getting past the updated motel thing (for what they charged).

Also, when I think of service as outstanding, I think 1) they are helpful (which they were) and 2) they give you invaluable information. I felt like they could have been more informative about great restaurants and places to go with our dog. They recommended a restaurant that wasn't that great (that seemed to have a very old idea about good food-i.e. just smother it in butter, rather than local, fresh, etc.). They also very very negative about us going to a place called Fiscalini Ranch Preserve. That place was the highlight of our trip- we went there several times and it was amazing (it made me wonder if they didn't want tourists discovering that gem of a place with their dogs). They had warned us about the ticks there, but our dogs didn't have any problems.

We wanted to thank you for your review of our property. We always appreciate it when our guests take time to let other guests know about their stay. I'm sorry you felt our hotel was overpriced, but you stayed in August and that is Cambria's high season. If you were to stay from September through May you'd find the rates much more reasonable. Again thank you for your review, I'm glad everything was comfortable.

What a surprise! We have not traveled with our dog before and this Inn was a wonderful First experience. We were greeted with a 'doggie' basket at check-in- with mat, bowls, towel, biscuits, etc for the dog. The room was very clean and modern. There is an inside pocket door that can separate the kitchenette from the main room- and a 'back' door leading to a patio. The grounds were very nicely manicured and clean. In the lobby the 'people' snacks and dog biscuits were very nice The morning breakfast basket was a treat. Very pleasant to walk along the boardwalk above the beach. Friendly Inn keeper, Clean Inn and Picturesque surroundings- perfect.
