“Disappointing Service and Mediocre Food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 20, 2014 via mobile

I made reservations at this restaurant after reading through all of the great reviews on TripAdvisor. I was very disappointed with this restaurant and may or may not give it another chance.

We had reservations and were immediately seated upon our arrival. Unfortunately, we were seated in a room that was filled with a few groups of "loud talkers" and could barely hear ourselves speak to each other. On top of the noise, the tables were so close together it was like we were dining with the folks next to us. We requested to be moved to another area in the restaurant. Our request was accommodated without hesitation.

The waitress (cannot remember her name) was prompt with the menus and asked if would like to order anything to drink. Before she left with the drink order, she advised of the soup de jour, and advised us there were no specials and everything in print was available... shortly afterwards, she returned with our drinks and took our order. Shortly after that, another waitress came by with a basket of "freshly baked" rolls and offered them to us. We accepted, however, these rolls may have been freshly baked, but they were dry and hard... so dry that we requested water from our waitress to wash them down! Unfortunately, the water took 10 minutes to be delivered to the table. While we were waiting for the water the same waitress took the dinner order for the table next to us, where she advised them about the specials... apparently it was restaurant week and there were selected items on a restaurant week menu that she neglected to tell us about when she told us there were no specials.

The food was fine, but nothing over the top... it was good, but not spectacular.

Considering the incredible reviews this restaurant receives on this website, I was sincerely disappointed and will probably try Madeline's when next visiting Cambria.

“Big surprise, SO delicious”

We loved this place, we were staying in Cambria for our anniversary. This food was off the charts, it was a number of years ago, but amazing.

“Fantastic”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2014

Everything was perfect. Small restaurant, but I didn't feel overcrowded. The cheese plate was lovely. Sounds like they always have something new. All our meals were wonderful - even a particularly finicky family member was happy! We had a wonderful wine and even had dessert! Don't miss this special restaurant. It was pricy, but worth the treat. And the service was really good. Our server helped with everything and seemed happy to give us the attention.

Fabulous food (try the abalone appetizer and the ahi main), cozy and charming atmosphere and excellent service. If you are visiting Cambria or just passing through don't miss this delightful bistro!

“Small and charming”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2013

This was a visit based upon a locals recommendation. The restaurant is small and cozy. To some extent a bit too cozy. We were two and the table was tiny and made it a bit uncomfortable. There was a white table cloth but placed on top of it was white paper. For the price point of this restaurant I would skip the paper! Now lets get to the food. We started with fried green olives which were yummy . I had a charred romaine salad which was not my favorite but Gabe had a green salad which made me jealous it was so good. Then off to the scallops which were very nice in a perfect sauce and served with a sweet polenta. Gabe had the pulled pork appetizer which was enough to satisfy as a main course and left enough room for a great chocolate desert served in a jar. It was yummy but so rich I don't know how one person could finish it. Only beer and wine so no pre dinner cocktails. Worth a visit and requires reservations.
