The name is a little misleading, the Sand Pebbles Inn would best be described as a quality motel with indoor corridors.
To me, Inn evokes cozy sitting areas with log fires, and lots of books, the Sand Pebbles is not an Inn in that sense, but it is very comfortable.
Hearst Castle and the Central Coast Wine Country are but short drive from the Inn,both well worth a visit.
Our large room with partial ocean view had a gas fire place, however the position of fireplace/TV/bathroom door could have been better, they all seemed to conflict with each other, especially the large bathroom door which opened into the sleeping area and conflicted with the doors of the TV cabinet.
The Inn location is perfect, right on Moonstone Beach Drive, steps from the ocean, and the two mile long boardwalk, just the thing for a stroll or energetic exercising. Very friendly and helpful staff, and two restaurants within walking distance, but be sure to check on their opening times. The breakfast was excellent, with cooked to order waffles and the usual selection of cereals, bagels, fruit, and excellent coffee. The breakfast area itself is a little cramped, with very small tables some of which are located in the corridor outside the breakfast room, this needs work.
All in all, great value for money and on our next visit to the Cambria area the Sand Pebbles Inn will be our first choice. Stayed three nights.
P.S. Make sure you have your camera for the spectacular sunsets.

This inn is absolutely gorgeous, I would give it 6 stars if I could. We booked a 2 queen oceanfront room and we were not disappointed. The room itself was surprisingly spacious with plenty of room for the four of us to move around. The location of the inn is spectacular with the ocean literally across the road. My daughter loved the squirrels who lived around the wooden walkway that lines the ocean, she could have played there for hours. There were sea lions lazing around on the beach just a few minutes walk up the beach.

The staff working at the time of arrival and checkout were very friendly and helpful, offering advice on nearby attractions and places to eat. Hearst Castle is an easy 10 minute drive away - well worth a look. The town of Cambria itself is charming, lots of little shops and places to eat. We were lucky enough to be there during the scarecrow festival, this is a tourist attraction in itself, just fantastic. If you visit Cambria make sure you eat at Linn's. We had lunch there and were too full to eat some of their famous pie, so went back later that evening and had pie for dinner (you can do that when you're on holidays)!

We plan on flying into San Francisco on our next trip from Australia and taking about a week to drive down to LA. A stay at the Sand Pebbles Inn is definitely on our agenda.

Had a lovely night at the Sand Pebbles Inn. Great location on Moonstone Beach. Lovely room with a full ocean view. Clean and comfy. Excellent restaurant recommendation (Robin's) and they gave us a free dessert coupon (very good pumpkin cheesecake). The one problem that arose the next morning (no need to go into it here as it was beyond the hotel's control) was resolved by management with a very willing and appreciated adjustment in the room price. Would definitely recommend and would stay there on our next trip.

Room Tip: Go for the full ocean view. It's worth the extra $$$.

Very clean, up to date boutique hotel. Great room with a view of the ocean. 30 second walk to the Moonstone Beach and a wooden boardwalk (probably a tautology). Easy walk to cool restaurants, friendly people walking around. Pleasant staff, comfy bed and sleeping to the sound of the surf. And a reasonable price (considering the area) , free breakfast (with fresh made waffles) and free wifi and parking. Very quiet too.

Great for walking along the ocean and enjoying the sunset on Moonstone Beach. Good selection of fruits, yogurt, granola, pastries and waffles made to order for breakfast by the preparer who did a great job ensuring everything was restocked. Our room was good with a fireplace and a partial view of the ocean out the windows. When we arrived in the evening after the long drive along Big Sur, the desk staffer gave us recommendations for dinner, including a couple of discount offers, and warned us not to delay because Cambria tends to close early on weekday evenings. We found one of the restaurants was just what we wanted, and we had plenty of time for dinner.

I really liked this hotel. The room was nice, location was good and- finally a hotel in CA with breakfast. If I were to return to Cambria I wouldn't even look for another hotel I would just book here.

The Sand Pebbles Inn was delightful. What a great place to stay after the hectic-ness of a busy though wonderful time in other parts of California. Across the street from the ocean, we could hear the waves lapping as we lay in bed and relaxed with the fireplace going. The whole place and all of the staff were welcoming and pleasant. The inn all feels new and fresh. The bed was very comfortable. The buffet breakfast had many options, was fresh and well arranged, plus a staff member greeted us in the breakfast room to offer to make waffles. The town was charming with friendly people in the shops and restaurants. The best part was the beach. At the south end of Big Sur, the bluff that the inn was on was beautiful and considerately equipped with a long boardwalk to enjoy it. We also descended to the beach as we watched the sunset. Truly a wonderful place.
