“Gorgeous reception area”
Reviewed March 23, 2013

We were on a driving holiday & we arrived here as a drop in. The receptionist was lovely & reception area extremely welcoming. You can sit here in front of the fire in the evenings if you choose. Standard motel rooms which are a little dated but clean. Small town so you can walk to everything. Would stay again.

This is a slightly upscale roadside motel. The backyard is very beautiful. I would recommend it but the price stings, especially since the location is away from the ocean and on the main strip. ,..........................

We enjoyed staying at the Bluebird Motel enough to stay twice during our 2 wk drive on Hwy 1. Opted for larger rooms on the creek at rear of the property having a gas fireplace, patio, nice bathroom with frig. Rooms were very clean and location is great for walking the West side of town and near a number of restaurants (recommend Half Moon Cafe practically next door). My husband enjoyed watching the Super Bowl on the large TV in the room. Though coffee maker available we chose to get coffee/cake from the lobby instead. Staff is nice and helpful. They have a number of bird feeders placed around the property and garden plants to draw birds, too. Saw our first Acorn Woodpecker here.

We love this place, first for the location, second for the price, third becasue it just perfect for a nights getaway for parents of 3 very young chilren. Last time we stayed I was 9 month pregnant, we are going back next month with our 6 month old. I love the charming loby, and its vintage appeal. Breakfast isnt anything to write home about, but within walking distance to several resterauts and cofee shops, a grocery store, and antique shops. Rooms are clean, and we loved the service. We live locally and used to be loyal to another hotel, untill prices got way to high and it went up so high inpopularity that it wouldnt honor some of its local specials on our disired weekends. Calling the bluebird was a breath of fresh air. Awesome price and availabilty. We knew we would be getting a clean room (yes they are dated) but clean and quiet and private. We will be comming back as often as we can.

12 of my family stayed here in 4 different rooms between Christmas and New Year's. Everyone we encountered in reception was very friendly and helpful. Including in correcting our reservation - three rooms were checking out a day earlier than they planned - no problem.

We liked the lobby with fireplace, piano, newspapers and magazines and complimentary coffee, tea and cocoa all day long.

The curb appeal is great - very charming. Our room was immaculate. The beds were comfortable, but the pillows were not soft and there was only one per person. There is a lovely garden down to a creek out back.

The best thing about the Bluebird is it's right in town, East Village. We walked to restaurants for every meal and there are quaint shops too. A great value.

Room Tip: There are rooms with creek views. Although the street wasn't busy, if you're a light sleepe...

The curb appeal of the Bluebird Motel is great. Very inviting and looks clean. But the interior is another story. The lobby itself was drab, very dark and looked as though a cloud of dust would puff up if you were to sit down.

The old lady behind the counter was rude. Why work in customer service if you're going to be crabby all the time? Anyway, no greeting, no smile...just a terrible existence. A smile can go a long way when it comes to customer service.

Room 14 was upstairs and took awhile for it to be cleaned. The manager was yelling at the employees as I was waiting for my room. He wasn't even discreet about it, which made things a little awkward.

The room itself was a little depressing - think 1980s minimalist decor. This place came recommended by a friend so I didn't bother looking around for other places to stay. The bathroom was spacious but the pink/white tiled walls and floor needed to be cleaned thoroughly. The shower head also needed to be cleaned.

The bed was old with no support. The linen was probably 200 thread count when it was new. Now, it's barely hanging in there after 1000+ washes. They were so thin you can see through them. There weren't any guests staying next door so I can't comment on the thin walls. The heater was so old we were hesitant to turn it on but we had to because the "blanket" that was provided was so thin.

In the morning, they had hot chocolate and pound cake in the lobby. When I returned the room key, the lady was still rude. No eye contact...no thank you for staying with us...no anything. Just took the key from me and turn away. WTH?

There are other places in Cambria that deserve your business. Who cares that this place is a couple bucks cheaper? Avoid, avoid, avoid.

We really enjoyed our stay here, we opted for one of the small suites rather than just a room as the price was pretty good, after negotiation. Room was well appointed and very clean. There was a lovely small garden and walk right outside our back door. Staff were all very helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: The suites have gardens out back
