“Wonderful stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 3, 2008

Stayed here over night in a standard King room. This hotel is fantastic, right across from the beach and only moments from downtown Cambria. Room was huge and beautifully decorated, loved the fireplace. Hotel grounds were lovely and even tried the spa and heated pool. Breakfast was ok. This place was so peaceful and quiet, a great romatic stay. Staff were extremely efficient and friendly.
Can highly recommend the "Sows Ear" restaurant in town. Delicious food and friendly service and also very quaint and romantic.
Will never stay any where else in Cambria again, they have won us.

We stayed here for one night on a rainy January nignt. It was a real gem. The pictures do not do it justice. From the moment we arrived, it just "felt right". The hotel staff was friendly (even on the phone prior to arriving - they were polite and professional, calling you by name) and inviting.

The building itself looks inviting like an english countryside retreat.

The lobby has a cozy fireplace where we sat and perused through the full and updated book of local menus trying to decide where to have lunch prior to our actual check-in.

We returned to check in and were greeted with a speedy, efficient and friendly check in process topped off by warm cookies to take. We were offered many wonderful suggestions on what to see in the area and good suggestions for dining.

The room was so cozy and clean. In the spacious mirrored closet, there were waffle weave robes in the closet to use for your stay, a mini fridge and good amenities. The bathroom countertops are tile and the mirror is a frame. The fireplace is a great touch especially on a chilly January night.

The complimentary deluxe continental breakfast here is one of the best. The Breakast room is appointed like a cute restaurant with an armoire/hutch of dishes and decorations. There are two fresh waffle stations with good instructions to make your own waffle. There are also other great selections for a deluxe continental breakfast.

It really feels like a B & B across from the ocean.

I would highly recommend staying here.

My boyfriend and I spent Thanksgiving weekend at the Fogcatcher Inn. It was absolutely perfect. I’ve stayed at some other hotels along the ocean and Fogcatcher is one of the best. The front office staff is very friendly and helpful. They even had warm cookies at check-in. Very very yummy after a long drive. We booked a Queen mini suite with ocean view. Very clean and nice. There is a separate living area with fireplace, couch, flat screen TV, small round table and chairs to enjoy the ocean view while having some wine and cheese and they even had binoculars so you could watch for surfers, sea lions, sea otters. It also has a nice sized mini refrigerator...larger than other hotels...which kept everything very cold. There is a separate bedroom with queen size bed, amour, TV and window seating bench. The restroom was large and spacious. Breakfast is good, better than the other hotels, more variety and enough to get your morning started. They even have 2-go cups for your coffee if you would like to take on your morning walk along the beach which is right across the street. Overall it is a great place for a romantic getaway. We will continue to come back to the Fogcatcher. In fact we’ve already booked our next trip this May.

We travelled from Los Angeles to San Fransisco and wanted to make two stops and after some research we wanted to make one stop in Cambria. Coming from Los Angeles the weather was quite a chock, it was cold and
really really foggy. Our room at FogCatcher was very big, beautiful and very cosy. It had a large bed, big TV and a fireplace. It also had
a little kitchen. The staff was very serviceminded and helpfull and when you arrive you get a bag og yummie cookies. The breakfast was ok but nothing special.

The beach is just over the road but because of the climat i don´t think alot of people swim there. But it´s very beautiful aroun and a very nice place to bee if you want to relax. We took our car and went in to the center of cambria whitch is just a few minuts drive away. It´s not very large but has alot of character. Alot of antiqeshops and other small shops.

I´m happy with my stay at the FogCather inn, it was relaxing and very diffrent. I would recommend FogCatcher inn and Cambria to peolpe who are on there way somewhere and need a nice place to stay for a night or it woul be a lovely place to to stay for a romantic weekend but it´s not the place to bee if you like alot of happenings.

Stayed one night with our large dog in a very nice room. Ample size, nicely furnished and the fireplace was great (though it acts as the room heater and surprised us at 6:00 am!). Very good breakfast. The only downside was the shower water that fluctuated greatly from cold to really hot. And of course, can't beat the location. Would definitely stay again.

Nice and clean, just not worth the rate. The location is excellent and I understand that there isn't exactly a ton of choices in the area, but they can do at least two things to make it a bit more worth the cost.

The television in the sitting room was a nice flatscreen but the TV in the bedroom made an annoying buzzing sound. Not so bad that I felt compelled to call and complain to the front desk, but still annoying.

Second, the free breakfast. This may seem minor, but having just stayed at a place that does the same thing, Fogcatcher's make-your-own waffle set-up offers a thin, watered-down batter that results in a pitiful excuse for a waffle. Again, if I hadn't just had an excellent waffle the previous day it may not have made an impression on me, but since the other place's batter had to be scraped out of the cup because it was so thick, it seemed like the Fogcatcher was scrimping to save pennies here. Not the right thing to do when you charge over $200 a night. The scrambled eggs, salsa, and sausage were all pretty good. Definitely above average and on par with what you would expect for a complimentary meal.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Overall, I am sure you can do a lot worse for the same or more money on the beach in Cambria. Not a bad choice at all.

While this place has a nice location steps from the sea, I have to say it was really no more than a drive up motor lodge...we paid $239 for a king view room and it was just ok...the bathroom was very motelish as was the fridge/microwave/coffee maker. Breakfast was just average, self serve, cafeteria style. Aside from the location, I'm not sure it's worth it.
