What a great beach. This was right across the two lane street from the hotel I was staying in. Was fantastic to be able to take a walk on the boardwalk back to hotel after walking along the water.

This is a great place to look for rocks. Next time I will get there earlier since the best ones were already taken by time I arrived. High tide of course is crucial.

On my most recent trip to Cambria I spent quite a bit of time at Moonstone Beach finding sea glass and lovely little rocks to make jewelry out of. I honestly could spend hours sifting through those rocks and finding treasures. One of the most peaceful and beautiful places I've ever been.

So I have decided to share a secret. Most people park along Moonstone Beach Drive and walk the boardwalk or the beach below - and that is definitely worthwhile. Here's the "secret:" If one drives to the north end of Moonstone Beach Drive and parks at the little park where the road goes back onto Highway 1, you can find a more secluded beach. From the parking area, head north a few hundred feet and you will find some old stairs leading down to the beach. I have usually found myself alone there, meaning you have the joy of solitude on an uncrowded beach, but also you have a better chance of finding gem quality moonstones. Hint: Take wading shoes and look around the bases of some of the rocks, as they seem to gather there. Walk north if you like, or head back south and you will find stairs back up to the road, although there is a bluff top path back to the parking area that is more enjoyable.

WE stayed at one of the motels across the road from moonstone beach and enjoyed 2 lovely walks, one in the evening along the boardwalk to watch the sunset and then the next day down on the beach. The views are lovely with waves, rocks and wild flowers. ON the beach you'll find clusters of polished stones to sort through, tidal pools, lots of driftwood and some interesting tepee creations, and surfers to watch. Very enjoyable.
