“Very nice MOtel...not HOtel”
Reviewed July 1, 2013

Who would have thought that such a lovely motel would be only a few blocks from the delightful main street of Calistoga? Well, this Best Western is truly a lovely place to stay if you are visiting the area.

Firstly...be aware that this is a MOtel...not a HOtel and there are NO elevators to the second floor which makes it very difficult to carry up heavy luggage.

RESERVATIONS: Made on-line. For a MOtel, this was expensive, but considering the area, it was actually inexpensive. Paid (with taxes) almost $200 for a king bed room on a Monday night.

ARRIVAL: The staff was EXTREMELY friendly and helpful when we arrived. The 2 ladies made us feel very welcome.

ROOM: We were given a room that looked out at 2 main (noisy) roads. The room was VERY nice, clean and large. There was a fireplace, sofa, plenty of space to place the luggage out of our sight, a large flat-screen t.v., refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and bar sink. I loved that the t.v. remote control was a "clean" remote that came in a bag to show that it had been cleaned after each use.

The bathroom was VERY large, with a large vanity, very plush bath towels, nice smelling soap/shampoo, make-up remover packets, and blow dryer. Fabulous water pressure in bathtub/shower combo.

FACILITIES: We utilized the LARGE outdoor pool. It was raining and the pool had been heated to a glorious 80 degrees. They also had 2 sauna rooms and a hot tub located by the pool. The entire area was large and clean. My only complaint...there were NO towels at the pool area. We found out later that pool towels are located INSIDE THE BEDROOM CLOSESTS, which we thought was odd since it wasn't mentioned to us.

BREAKFAST: The "complimentary" breakfast consisted of 3 (?) different cereals, scrambled eggs, sausage, make-your-own pancakes, toast, bagels, scoop-your-own-yogurt-from-a-bowl, juices, teas, and coffee. There was a bowl of apples sitting out in the check-in area, which I believe was the only fruit offered. There are 2 breakfast rooms. One (small room) is where the food is served, the other is outside of the building, which would be awfully inconvenient.

The breakfast room attendant was VERY attentive, making sure items remained stocked and tables kept clean. She was very friendly, too.

SEVERAL NOTES: I was very impressed by the young man running the front desk in the morning. He was on the phone as I was standing there waiting for him to finish. Evidently, he was taking a reservation and told the person on the phone, "I'm sorry, but I do not want to repeat your credit card number because I have a guest standing at my counter."

I greatly appreciated his discretion.

The reason I couldn't give the BW a 5 star rating? The acoustics and air conditioning. The road noise was very loud and kept me awake; we could hear people talking in the other rooms and the room with the children was LOUD until 11:00 p.m. It was not relaxing. And lastly, the air conditioner was thermostat controlled and glitchy, so it would go off and on every 5 minutes even though the thermostat showed the temperature wasn't changing.

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor room if you have a lot of luggage. Ask for a room away from the roads.

First time in Calistoga. Great location. I walked to town several times. Friendly, helpful staff. Immaculate rooms. Well maintained and designed. Highly recommended!!!! Travelled The entire length of Napa Valley. This was the best location for me and my rural sensibities.

We were very happy with the accommodations at Stevenson Manor. King room with a view of the mountains was quiet and faced the back grassy area. Bed was heavenly. Room furnishings and decor and bathroom were upscale and looked new. Very spacious room and bathroom. Nice fruit flavored water, homemade chocolate cookies and fresh fruit available in the afternoon in the lobby at checkin. Full breakfast with eggs, oatmeal, sausage, pancakes, cold cereal and yogurt for breakfast from 7 to 10 am and hot and cold beverages! Easy 5 min stroll to downtown from the hotel. Highly recommend staying here! If you want to eat at Jole restaurant make reservations ahead of time.

Our experience was, overall, a very good one, as we're repeat customers from California.

The breakfasts, which are included in the price of the lodging, are very good, ample and if you're a coffee-for-breakfasts kind of person like me, is excellent.

The one thing I have an issue with is that the cleaning crew is not as thorough as I would like it to be, which has been a pet peeve every time we stay there.

When we stay there, it's usually for several days, and I noticed that the cleaning crew does not feel it necessary to vacuum daily, the empty shampoo, conditioners, tubes, etc. were in the same corner of the bath tub for the rest of our stay. The bed on which I had spilt salt on the sheets and shook off to some extent that morning, was still there that night after the beds were made. Suffice it to say that the overall cleaning of the rooms is not as detail oriented as I would like it to be. All things having been evaluates, however, the mediocre cleaning personnel doesn't warrant for us not coming back, as the rest of the services are great.

Maria

Room Tip: We usually like the 2nd or top floors of all lodgings, as they are lighter and it's a pretty goo...

Thank you for your time while writing out your comments, your honesty is most appreciated.

To fix your concerns of cleaning during your stay, just let the front desk know that a full cleaning service is requested through out your stay.

We have implemented a green program that allows our guests to re-use linens and towels and a necessities cleaning during their stay to support lower energy usage.

I understand not wishing to participate and have your room completely cleaned during your stay. It is one of the nicest things about staying in a hotel! Fresh sheets and towels every night!

Celebrated our anniversary and it was truly more than I expected for the price of our stay. Customer service is great, breakfast is good, room was very-very clean, and we loved that there is no smoking on the property. Pool and jacuzzi looked practically brand new as well as the room and facility (as a whole). Definitely will stay here in the future.

The Stevenson Manor is more of a "motel" style where the rooms all open to the outside around a courtyard. The staff was very friendy and called our room 20 minutes after we checked in to make sure everything was ok. The hotel is in a great location in Calistoga, close to both main Napa roads and to the town itself. They don't charge for parking and we always were able to find a space in the small lot. Our room on the first floor faced the sidewalk and road so unfortunately we had to keep our blinds closed but that was ok. The room and bathroom were large and the bed was comfy. The few things that would have been nice were having bottled water in the fridge, more then 2 bath towels and a makeup/vanity mirror in the bathroom. Overall a good choice for the area and we would stay there again.

We had a choice of hotels to attend a wedding on Calistoga and found the Stevenson Manor fit the bill. The staff is friendly, breakfast was included and very good, facilities clean and comfortable. To top it off, the price was very reasonable for Napa Valley.
