Who would have thought that such a lovely motel would be only a few blocks from the delightful main street of Calistoga? Well, this Best Western is truly a lovely place to stay if you are visiting the area.
Firstly...be aware that this is a MOtel...not a HOtel and there are NO elevators to the second floor which makes it very difficult to carry up heavy luggage.
RESERVATIONS: Made on-line. For a MOtel, this was expensive, but considering the area, it was actually inexpensive. Paid (with taxes) almost $200 for a king bed room on a Monday night.
ARRIVAL: The staff was EXTREMELY friendly and helpful when we arrived. The 2 ladies made us feel very welcome.
ROOM: We were given a room that looked out at 2 main (noisy) roads. The room was VERY nice, clean and large. There was a fireplace, sofa, plenty of space to place the luggage out of our sight, a large flat-screen t.v., refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and bar sink. I loved that the t.v. remote control was a "clean" remote that came in a bag to show that it had been cleaned after each use.
The bathroom was VERY large, with a large vanity, very plush bath towels, nice smelling soap/shampoo, make-up remover packets, and blow dryer. Fabulous water pressure in bathtub/shower combo.
FACILITIES: We utilized the LARGE outdoor pool. It was raining and the pool had been heated to a glorious 80 degrees. They also had 2 sauna rooms and a hot tub located by the pool. The entire area was large and clean. My only complaint...there were NO towels at the pool area. We found out later that pool towels are located INSIDE THE BEDROOM CLOSESTS, which we thought was odd since it wasn't mentioned to us.
BREAKFAST: The "complimentary" breakfast consisted of 3 (?) different cereals, scrambled eggs, sausage, make-your-own pancakes, toast, bagels, scoop-your-own-yogurt-from-a-bowl, juices, teas, and coffee. There was a bowl of apples sitting out in the check-in area, which I believe was the only fruit offered. There are 2 breakfast rooms. One (small room) is where the food is served, the other is outside of the building, which would be awfully inconvenient.
The breakfast room attendant was VERY attentive, making sure items remained stocked and tables kept clean. She was very friendly, too.
SEVERAL NOTES: I was very impressed by the young man running the front desk in the morning. He was on the phone as I was standing there waiting for him to finish. Evidently, he was taking a reservation and told the person on the phone, "I'm sorry, but I do not want to repeat your credit card number because I have a guest standing at my counter."
I greatly appreciated his discretion.
The reason I couldn't give the BW a 5 star rating? The acoustics and air conditioning. The road noise was very loud and kept me awake; we could hear people talking in the other rooms and the room with the children was LOUD until 11:00 p.m. It was not relaxing. And lastly, the air conditioner was thermostat controlled and glitchy, so it would go off and on every 5 minutes even though the thermostat showed the temperature wasn't changing.
