“Great getaway spot in Calistoga”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2012

Lucked into this wonderful B&B for a last minute weekend getaway. The owners Phillip and Peter could not be more gracious, accommodating and helpful. Our room was lovely with yummy bathrobes, snacks, water bottles. Wine and fruit available at all times, cheese and snack plate brought to us at the pool, breakfast out on the patio overlooking the vineyard. We'll definitely be back. Oh and they loved out dog too. :)

We just returned from a two night stay at Chateau de Vie in Calistoga. We were hesitant in going to the northern, less familiar part of the Napa Valley but the extra 30 minute drive from Napa to Calistoga is well worth the trip.

Phillip greeted us and walked us to our room. We had a beautifully appointed junior suite on the 2nd floor, overlooking the patio, vineyards and lap pool. Chateau de Vie is a boutique style inn with 5 beautiful rooms.

What you read on the Inn's own web site is exactly what you receive and experience when staying at Chateau de Vie. Luxurious comfort, beautiful surroundings and gracious hosts.

... and Phillip' breakfasts were amazing and made to order (thank you!).

We visited several boutique style wineries during our stay; many of which can only be visited by appointment. This region of the Valley is less touristy and a nice change from the more crowded Napa region.

We can't wait for our next visit :-)

Room Tip: Being so close to vineyards; there are wasps that visit you during the meal period. Not a big deal...

Just got back from our first trip to Napa area and if we go back, we would never even think of staying anywhere else ! Phillip and Peter and Gretchen were outstanding, the property was so nice and relaxing. After a beautiful hot air balloon ride, we got back around 10:30 and they were ready with a great breakfast, what a day. We stayed upstairs in the king suite, my sister and bro-in-law were downstairs and we all had nothing but great things to say about our stay here, from the breakfast in the mornings, to the wine and cheese on the deck in the eves. Thank you CDV !

We stayed at Chateau de Vie (CDV) for two nights and our wonderful experience made me join TripAdvisor just so I could write a positive review. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the property is stunning and on its own vineyard, and the breakfast was delicious! We stayed in a room with a queen bed in the main house and were very happy with it. This alone would earn 4 or 5 stars, but what put CDV over the top was the service from Phillip, Peter and Gretchen. Phillip went out of his way to help make recommendations and reservations for wineries/restaurants, and suggested good running routes. Peter was very generous in helping with our late check-in and check-out times. They all made the stay very special. Overall this was a fantastic experience and we'll be recommending CDV to all of our friends!

Room Tip: We stayed in a room with a queen size bed on the second floor and were very happy with it.

We had never been to the Napa Valley before and checked trip advisor before going and found the Chateau de Vie. All I can say, is this is going to be, yet another, glowing review. In fact, we have never stayed in a nicer bed and breakfast.

We stayed in the carriage house which was just perfect. The king bed was so comfortable, the bedding was top notch, and the decor superb. It overlooks the vineyard and it so terrifically private. Each morning we would find the paper, a pot of coffee and even a can of diet Pepsi for me. We had the option of having breakfast delivered to our room as well, but we liked the other guests so much we decided to join everyone out on the patio.

What a breakfast!! We stayed for 4 nights and I had the best 4 breakfasts I have ever eaten. Homemade scones, waffles from scratch, Phillip even made his own granola!!! Who does that? I read one really funny review where the person complained that the breakfast was small...well....my 6'4" husband didn't think so. I couldn't finish mine.

In the afternoon we were brought a fabulous cheese plate to eat by the pool or by the jacuzzi. I had some of the best cheese on this trip. I can't thank them enough.

But wait...there's more. Not only was the place peaceful, quiet with spectacular views, and insanely good food....you get access to Peter. Peter is the other owner. Peter gave us the best trip advice, in fact, we wouldn't have had nearly as good a time as we did had it not been for Peter. He told us about a little known route to the ocean through amazing country. We got to see Bodega Bay, feed some seagulls, then come back and stop and see a redwood forest. The next day we drove to Lake Berryessa and got some amazing views overlooking the entire valley....again...not a road we would have thought to take.

We started to joke, that no matter what Peter said....try it! He sent us to a wonderful restaurant to have a french dip sandwich. I am not a huge fan of french dips...but....this was THE best sandwich! He sent us to a tiny little off the beaten track kind of general store and they had amazing egg rolls...in the middle of nowhere. We really owe our entire trip to Peter.

We even got to see the elusive Marcel, the black lab puppy. The Ps (as we called Peter and Phillip) are very careful to make sure everyone is comfortable so they keep Marcel locked away unless requested. (I guess not everyone loves dogs???). If you go, do request an audience with the lab. He is so incredibly sweet.

In the mornings and evenings we would take a walk through the vineyards and just drink in the scenery. We even found a blackberry bramble with the sweetest blackberries. (Ha! They call it a weed!!)

Having never been to Napa, I was really nervous about where to stay and read some reviews that said the Chateau is a bit far out. I would love to ask those people, far out for what? True, it isn't right next to the city of Napa, but I have plenty of Walmarts and Targets at home. I don't need to be right next them when I travel. In fact, we took roads both directions and it turned out for us, this was smack in the middle of each of our treks. There are so many vineyards in the entire valley, you can't walk two feet without running into one. Going to Yountville for lunch might have taken us 20-25 minutes, going to St. Helena took around 10 or 15. It is all very close. But, I would suggest staying on that end of the valley unless you have someplace specific to be that is someplace else. It is greener, more lush, and doesn't have quite the traffic of the other end.

All in all, the Ps made our 10th anniversary something we will always remember. If we ever get back to Napa, we wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else. We have been home one day, and I miss them already. They take complete care of you and pay attention to every little detail....they even had a gate that swung both ways so no matter which way you were going into the carriage house, it opened in your direction. Free wi-fi, free sodas as much as you can drink, a bar with bottles of wine always ready for you, l'occtaine toiletries that are lovely (and if you request it, they will provide hypoallergenic Neutrogena. Who would complain about that??) In the carriage house we had a flat screen tv and a dvd player, and a huge library of videos. I can't think of what else you would need, but if you need it, they probably provided it, blame me for not mentioning it.

You can't go wrong!

Room Tip: If you want total privacy, the carriage house is separate from the rest of the building. I didn'...

As all the previous reviewers mentioned.. The breakfasts are amazing, the views spectacular, and the cottage is quaint and upscale. This is truly a special place to visit. Peter and Philip do an amazing job and no detail is overlooked. We felt so comfortable and relaxed here. Our room was a good size, with a very comfortable bed and space to store our luggages. The bathroom is a bit small but it's configured in such a way that it's very functional. We spent 2 weeks visiting California and this was by far my favorite place that we stayed. If every returning to Napa Valley I would absolutely stay here.

My husband and I recently stayed for a week at Chateau de Vie just outside of Calistoga for our 10 year anniversary and my birthday. It could not have been more perfect! Peter and Phillip made our stay everything and more. They have a little slice of heaven right there at Chateau de Vie. The breakfast are something to be savored each day and we loved visiting with them and other guest on the beautiful deck overlooking the vineyard. Wine and scrumptious delights are offered each afternoon or evening...we had a marvelous time and we can't wait until we can go stay with them again...Merci!
