Solage is quite beautiful and peaceful. The resort is very conducive to pampering and relaxation. We brought our dog and she got royal treatment as well. They provided her with a doggie bed, bowls and dog treats. We all had a super time.

Solage is 30 miles north of Napa in Calistoga on Silverado Trail. Ours was a relax, spa, wine and dine visit of 3 days. Solage is outside entry cottages off of nicely landscaped walkways. Parking lots are provided within easy walking distance of the widely separated cottage buildings.Cottages are all first floor. All have private sitting patios outside. Rooms are modern, with great bed, insert fireplace, big flat screen tv, nice bathroom area, with sink, toilet and tile walk-in shower all separated. Nice for couples to get ready for the day.Rooms have many bar, but they are very lightly stocked, just a couple sodas and beers, but as refrigerator type, they offer lots of room for your own stuff. There is high class liquor in room, Grey Goose, Makers, Tanqueray. They had bottle of champagne for us on ice, nice touch. Spa welcome area was nice, the appointment waiting areas were outside (heated and covered). The spa treatments were very good and the staff was very professional and capable. The private pool area for the spa was a bit of disappointment, the pool was nice, but the lounge chairs were not really poolside and they were uncovered bamboo lounge chairs. They could improve that aspect. I did not see any food or beverage service in this area or at the general public pool, might have been just the time of year, best to check on this if you are planning on spending the day at the spa as we had hoped to do. Solbar is restaurant, food is fantastic, you won't be dissapointed. We had dinner and a couple breakfasts, all great. Bar is also in same space, it works. Make reservations for dinner, the property has lots of cottages and few tables in Solbar. We did not use the free offer of the Mercedes Benz convertible they allow out for 4 hours at time, but that would have been cool. We enjoyed our time at Solage. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. It was a good value for the money. Perhaps because of the season, we were able to get 4 nights for price of 3. We would stay again here again. The best restaurants are in St. Helena and Yountville, both of which are 20-30 minute drives from property. (BTW, use the Silverado Trail to go back and forth to other towns, much faster than 29 which gets busy with in-town traffic)

Room Tip: Get a southern exposure if you can and the closer to the pool, the better. Every cottage gets 2 bikes which is fun.

The cottage experience is unique to me but I loved it. The rooms were modern yet warm and cozy. Having bikes at our disposal was a nice touch although we never used them. The personnel was always friendly and accommodating. The food was very good at the restaurant but not so much pool side. Walking back to our cottage at night was a bit dark. The lack of lighting may have been by design but I would have preferred pathways to be it up more. I took a spin class and would have liked to try yoga but didn't have the chance. Thumbs up to the instructor! She remembered my name in passing later. Not expected but appreciated. I also had a facial. It was a very nice and relaxing experience. I would stay at this property again.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the lobby will avoid a dark walk back to your room at night.

If you want a quiet getaway, you've found it! The cottages are very comfortable and private. The grounds are impeccable and the personnel is top notch! We used the fitness room, the bath house, the pool and the spa. Although we enjoyed the mud treatment at the spa, we felt a bit left in the lurch, but that is probably because we are massage people! The food for breakfast and dinner was excellent. The warm donuts to order for dessert were such a treat! We saw a hot air balloon flying high over the cottages each morning, which was beautiful. The location of the hotel is great, not too far, but away from crowds. We would definitely stay here again!

Lots of choices in the valley and solage is starting to grow into its big boy pants. If you are tired of the gracious style ( and price) of Auberge, Meadowood, or Calistoga ranch it has some interesting features. The pool scene and spa are great but I was not a fan of the loft style rooms. Service and food are good along with a great location on the trail. A bit overpriced for what you really get but my biggest concern is the lack of a soul.
