Solage, an Auberge Resort

Certificate of Excellence

We thoroughly loved our stay at Solage. A very relaxed atmosphere where every staff person we encountered was polite, upbeat and very helpful. The grounds and buildings were impeccably maintained. The buildings are airy and modern with an emphasis on being 'green'. The spa is perhaps one of the most relaxing places we've ever been. I'd probably leave the kids at home though (as we did) -- this place is all about relaxation and rejuvenation. We highly recommend Solage.

I was offered Solage Callistoga at a great rate, and so decided to take the plunge and try it out for a couple of days. I did not regret it as it was perfect for my purposes.

At first, the lobby/check in area did not impress me much - for the price, a bit low key. This is just a matter of taste, and I can see the sense in not wasting too much space and capital on the check in area. However, the service and thoughtfulness of the staff was top notch. The hotel rooms are lodge type self contained small houses, on the hotel compound. The rooms were much more impressive, spacious, well maintained with clean modern lines and materials.

The design was superb, leaving the feeling that it was modern yet in touch with nature. The front of the lodge had a small patio area where my room looked out on a shared common area with a fountain.

Usage of bicycles was complimentary and great fun. The concierge, I believe his name was Santiago, was fantastic. He arranged restaurant bookings, limo service, worked with out itinerary, and was helpful throughout our stay. He introduced us to our limo driver, Said, who was fantastic and knew all the wineries and scenic spots inside out.

I also have to mention Sol Bar and the Spa. Sol Bar has great food - you don't always need to head out to have a great meal. We stayed in for some meals and Sol Bar served up good gourmet food with service to match. The spa has won many awards, including for best spa in the US I believe, so if time allows, that should be tried as well.

The only minus point for this hotel is that technically, it is not really near any of the wineries, nor is it near the main area of Napa where well known restaurants and shops are clustered. Taxi service in Napa is non-existent, and therefore you will have to rely on limo service (which costs) or car rental (which means you can't drink), so take this into account. You can however, bike to a nearby strip which has some quaint shops and restaurants.

We had an amazing stay at the Solage! So relaxing and such a beautiful place! The spa was great and highly recommend eating at Solbar. The food was terrific, best meal ever from start to finish! Everything was wonderful! The bikes were great and rode them into town for dinner the first night! You can't go wrong when picking Solage to stay at! Also loved the Calistoga area. Make sure to go check out Castello di Amarosa, awesome place with great tours and wine.

My husband and I spent 3 days last weekend at the resort to check out Calistoga wine country and were not disappointed! We were in a Vega studio, which is their smaller studio, but certainly a good size for 2. The outdoor patio faced a little grassy courtyard which even though had other rooms around it, felt private.
Also, notably, the resort was at capacity, but we certainly did not feel it. A few highlights:
- The mud bath at the spa was amazing and nice change from the usual massage type treatment we get
- Try to get the front desk to put out 2 chairs by the fireplace right outside the reception; Solbar staff will bring out food/drinks and it was like a private dinner experience by the fireplace!
- Like others have notes, the bikes are sooo fun! We biked into town and had dinner at Calistoga Inn- great tacos!
- Great location: all the cool Calistoga wineries were within a 10 minute drive; def stop by Lava as your last tasting for the day
- Have to order room service breakfast..Solbar pancakes best ever, especially in a fluffy robe!

We also went to Calistoga Ranch for dinner- good food, great wine list.

Overall, this is a fun, relaxed resort at a great value for the Calistoga area.

From the front desk staff to the grounds keepers, each and every employee went out of their way to make sure our two night stay was perfect. The on site restaurant (SolBar) is fantastic, with both food and service top notch. Rooms are well laid out, with extra comfy beds. Bikes come with the rooms, and riding into town is a great diversion. We can't wait to return.

We had an excellent two night stay at the Solage. The service is impeccable, and the rooms are spacious and very comfortable, wth attractive semi-private terrace areas. The grounds are beautifully kept and peaceful. The on-site restaurant, Solbar, is exceptionally good. We ate there both nights, and all our courses were wonderful. Breakfast (particularly the lemon ricotta pancakes) is lovely and makes booking the breakfast inclusive rate well worth it. The complimentary bikes are a nice touch, making it possible to do some wine-tasting on two wheels. The Zahtila winery, just up the road, was particularly charming. Although it's by no means cheap, we would certainly go back.
