“The Castle Is Impressive, Take The Tour.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2012

We took the tour and thought it was definitely worth it. We got to go into the cellars, have a barrel tasting and then a private tasting. The people who paid $18 missed some of the best parts of the castle and were packed at a crowded tasting bar. The wine is not bad but I would not buy it at the price offered. It's very commercial but I begrudge Mr. Sattui not one cent of profit because he has accomplished something amazing with the construction of this building. It is really is something to see. Tours were leaving every ten minutes and it was quite busy. Our tour guide was excellent. This is a fantastic place. There are so many wineries that it seems the theme park approach (like Coppola's) is a way to draw visitors. If you are staying in a Wine Country hotel, check for discount offers.

“This place is a joke”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2012

I can't believe how many people were lined up to see this "castle" in the middle of Calistoga, CA. It was a mob scene, like Disney for wine tasters. If you really want to see a castle - go to Italy - you'll find more satisfaction. The Sangiovese was better than decent, truth be told. But the crowds and the incredibly surly staff were not worth our time or effort. And on that note, I was truly annoyed by the man who was set up to pour our wine. He was a bit rude and unfriendly and that made for a frustrating experience.

We had a "passport" for Calistoga wineries. With the passport, we received a free tour and tasting (valued at 18$). Because it was one of the last in a series of a otherwise great winery visits - I don't feel like I wasted my money (after you visit 3 wineries you get your investment back). Sadly, I definitely wasted my time.

“An amazing afternoon and a must see winery that we will definitely visit again”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 9, 2012

We visited the castle winery with the intent of apendjng only an hour and then be on our way but 4 hours later we were still meandering the castle sights and tastes.
There is a small fee for the tour and tasting, but it is well worth the money. The craftsmanship is amazing and doesn't stop at the outward appearance, the detail extends to the 4 levels underground to make the castle look like is hundreds of years old inatead if a new structure.
the wine tasting was very informative and educational and then the gift shop never seemed to end.

“A castle in Napa Valley”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 7, 2012

A beautiful castle in Napa Valley, hand crafted the old way, and with materials from Europe and other old castles. Definitely a one of a kind experience in the Sonoma/Napa wine area, even kids would enjoy the tour.
