For your first visit, pay the extra to take the tour. This is a beautiful place with such attention to detail that you need the tour guide to really get a sense of what was done. Then, there are the wines. I would say that the price for tasting is really much too high, but the wines are great. Once you know what you like, you can come back and simply purchase, but it is a really wonderful place. And there are some distinctive wines that you will find nowhere else. They even got me to like some sweeter wines.

“Excellent escape - a bit of fun & surprise for everyone touristy w/ good sweet wines”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2012

Excellent tourist attraction in the northern tip of napa valley, "rival" of Sterling across the mountain (which has cable car up to the uphill vineyard)

The owner of castle is meticulous and has a vision to build this extraordinary authentic european castle, literally with stones from Europe. I won't spoil the fun by naming all the details in the building, but you should know that every detail counts, there's a moat, a noble's hall and even a torture chamber!

The tour is a great walk through of the rooms, courtyard, and ends up in the knight's hall (with a special surprise), and wine tasting.

While I won't go here just for wine, their sweet wine is quite decent. They are most famous for Fantasia (hint: pomegranate, sweet & fizzing), but... I think the Fantasia I tasted back in 2009 is fantastic, but it has since then being too sweet, so I go for Simpatica, or Pinot Bianco, still sweet, but crispy, refreshing. They do a good job getting pear aroma into their wines. Reds... meh

This is one of the few places in Napa that one can enjoy if one's not crazy about wine or alcohol. It's a legendary place. It's touristy, don't get me wrong, but it's a good blend of touristiness and authenticity (all in the architecture and history of the castle & the underground caves).

Great for couple's experience, very romantic. I haven't tried any of their annual or seasonal events despite being here four times. I would want to try that soon!

The gift shop is quite cute, has a medieval, royal taste to it - example, leather notebooks, metal crowns, knight suit for kids... Now it has the tasting room in the center square with the gifts surrounding it. Back then, a few years ago, 2008/2009, they had private smaller rooms for a group of tasters, those stone bars were quite cool. I like those better

“Fun Tour, Great Guide”

We had a great tour. The Castle was a very unique way to house a winery in CA and we really enjoyed the history of the property, explanations of the wine-making process, and tasting (great wines!).

“Great Pictures!”

Fun place to visit for the views and scenery. The castle is really cool, the wine isn’t the greatest but this visit was more for the atmosphere.

“Great wine tasting experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2012

This was a great wine tasting experience! You get to tour the castle & get to taste 5 different wines. The location was just beautiful! Its hard to believe that its only been open for only 5 years. It really looks like an ancient castle. Great wines there too
